confused Can't connect to the Grid Servers.

Hello,

Although I've been using this machine for over a year, recently I have not been able to connect to the server since 10pm 2/26/2011 PST. So thinking it may be my Win7 64 machine I uninstalled and re-installed BOINC from the WCG website. (This I have done many times when building new machines that ran 2000, XP and now Win7.

However, the Grid Icon is disabled and I still get the message: "Connecting to client".

I've check the firewall, I even deleted the BOINC program files and program data folders and reinstalled again. But no improvements.

Although it appears to be a good install, it's not connecting. The "advanced view" is blank, and containess no projects nor tasks. And the "simple view" is "Retreiving Current Status"...

Having tried for three hours now, (on something that should be relatively simple, I'm beginning to think that the servers are down. However, I don't see a global message stating so.

Everything else on my machine is working perfectly. I'm truely STUMPED!.

I'll be happy to try anything, if I only had a roadmap to success.
Thanks

Re: Can't connect to the Grid Servers.

This seems to be a popular ''stumping'' bug in the last few months for no apparent reason, one of the possible fixes being to install the Berkeley distro over the WCG distro.

Get it here in 32 or 64 bit:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php?all_platforms=1

No performance advantage and no work fetch differential... both will pull 64 bits science versions, if available... long as there is a 64 bit OS installed.

edit: The techs have been made aware of this issue some weeks ago and asked in another thread for more message log detail, but if that's blank. Of course the user has ascertained that the boinc.exe core client is running, else there's nothing to connect to.
