I would like to suggest, in addition of the oficial advise from WCG about "30 days left of new work" for any project, that could be send another advise which will informe all crunchers about the "60 days left of new work" milestone too.
----------------------------------------For sure, it will help better anyone manage resources to participate more in projects near of final. Thank you in advance.
Cheers ! GIB@

while it is true they didn't give us a 60 day notice, they told us a few times that HFCC was estimated to end at the end of April (told us a few months ago). While, recent development has moved up the end date a little, the ppl at WCG has been very helpful in giving us estimated completion dates.

Or as I like to say, the problem with making things foolproof is that fools can be so darn clever.
----------------------------------------While I like the idea, the further out you attempt to set a date, the more opportunity there is for something to mess with your prediction. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but this is the internet. If you give out inaccurate information expect to be crucified on the forums and they will never forgive you. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

I think that the question is WCG provide a better estimative possible, 60 days before the end of projects. I really don't believe that it could be a consistent reason to guilty anyone, once estimatives aren't precises by definition and are dinamic ever.
----------------------------------------Once WCG have a lot of care to post any estimative message in the foruns, I guess that 60 days before announcements could help a lot many crunchers to take decisions with more gap and antecipation than just 30 days, once the last one is a short time situation to get any result without sacrifice WU's (abort or something like that) from other projects due priorization... Thank you all to share ideas and coments. Have a nice day ! ![]()

The only reason to provide a 60 day notice is so that crunchers can react to that notice, ie: to change the projects they are crunching. The ONLY reason to do that is to badge hunt. There is no value to WCG to assist members to badge hunt, it is merely a preoccupation that some have. I suggest you feel lucky to get 30 days notice. It is enough.

Edit: edited wording to avoid deviation of purpouse of this thread with discussions that will not agregate anything here.

So, anymore constructive or innovative additional inputs to complement or support this suggestion from WCG community ?

I know with HFCC there were several members that were estimating the end date before the 30 day notice was given. The estimates were pretty close to the WCG end date, so it is possible to give notice at an earlier date on some projects.
I agree with astrolab that it only really helps the badge hunters plan. Whether WCG feels advance notice provides value or not is another discussion. All I know is they provide the badges for a reason ![]() Personally I would like to see WCG provide a page with estimated completion dates for all projects similar to what SekeRob used to put out as a chart. |
