Did you restart after installing Boinc?
What operating system do you have, what is the system spec and what version of Boinc did you install? |

Check for a cc_config.xml file in your data directory. If one is there, open it with a text editor (Notepad) and look for this line:
<disallow_attach>1</disallow_attach> It that line is there change the 1 (one) to 0 (zero) and then start BOINC again. |

There's 2 possible issues:
1. That what BobCat13 noted. If the file exists it will be in the BOINC data dir which can be hidden. The Messages view shows the path at top, near when the client was started. Type that address in the File Explorer to get there. Older WCG client versions stopped users from (re)attaching to WCG or other projects. 2. Nothing you provide as indication, that the BOINC Manager is actually attached to the core client. If there is information in the messages tab and or right bottom there of BOINC Manager there is a connection indication such as "Connected to Localhost (6.10.58)", the problem is most likely with point 1 above. Let us know. --//-- PS: If you have messages, please copy/paste in your next reply. |

application is looking for C:\documents and settings\all user\application data\boinc but the directory does not exist. Before I wipe out my old machine should I copy that directory contents to my new machine? cc_config.xml exists there?

Suggest following:
1. Uninstall and reinstall making sure to select the PAE and Allow All Users options in the Advanced installer view. See http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28971 item 4 if installing 6.10.58 on Windows. Do this OFFLINE i.e. pull the internet cable. 2. If Windows 7 or Vista, the Data directory will be likely created in C:\ProgramData\BOINC (could be hidden). 3. Exit the client... make sure boinc.exe is no longer running! 4. Copy the data dir content, complete with it's subs from old machine to new machine in location, point 2. 5. Start the client and check if WCG is attached. 6. When yes, reconnect to internet and hit update in client to cause communication with WCG servers. If the new machine has the same device name as old machine it's likely that the WCG servers recognizes the device and will not create a new client registration... stats will then continue to accumulate against old host CPID. If there was still work in the old machines data dir, that could get aborted... nothing to worry about. Let us know --//-- |
