Re: UK

Just a random observation. wink The WCGDAWs program tells me that prior to the launch of HCC GPU my main machine was averaging 15.48 points p/h crunching HCC. The 16 HCC GPU WUs averaged 125.34 points p/h! biggrin

We are still assessing the impact of the acceleration on the end date of the HCC1 project. Our rough estimate with 'known' work based on this acceleration is about 100-130 days until end of project. BUT my use of the word 'known' simply means the number of batches we are aware to run. What we are are is not equal to what the researchers want to run so we are discussing this further with them at this time. However, we do not yet have any research project beyond HCC1 that we know can run on a GPU. While this has definitely shown the power of GPU working well, for an application that clearly fits the profile of being suitable for GPU, the researchers are still the ones that provide the code and they will have to determine if GPU would work for their project and then make the modifications. It is important to us to have GPU capable projects, but we cannot promise them. Even then, we could find ourselves with a project that was written for CUDA and not be able to run on AMD graphics cards (or written for AMD but not CUDA). As a result, we ask that people not make purchasing decision without understand these caveats.

Makes me wonder if it was worth all the hassle of setting up GPU in the 1st place confused

Another outstanding day's crunching!

The question now is "Can we sustain it?"

I fear not :-\ Part of that is the following; my results from yesterday:
0:048:14:35:44 days
241,859 points
463 results

Given that that's nearly 20 days RT more than I can produce in the long term.....

It's a perfect storm of gpu crunching and the huge lag in my HPF2 WUs: I stopped receiving them 4 days ago and they're starting to validate en masse it seems! Still, gave me my third consecutive 'best day ever' and 7th place on the UK stats :-) I don't think that's going to be repeated any time soon biggrin

What we need is another couple of team members to push us into 'One year RT per CD' territory!

EDIT: Ha! We were typing at the same time it seems. I can't believe that this tsunami of validating HFP2 WUs will continue, though I /do/ still have 24 days worth to go, so you never know!

Re: UK

My first sapphire badge, for HPF2, just appeared. Excellent - now to tidy up the remaining (fixable) red one. biggrin

Re: UK

My new HD 6570 has been installed and I am just waiting for the project to be resumed to try out my 1st GPU work unit (fingers crossed).
