CEP2: Saving CPU time, by cutting the second reporter short at minimum.

For Techs and cleanenergy, to stock up their plate:

Referring to other discussions, maybe a slight twist, saving crunch time rather than increasing. If it's okay for a shorter/cut off task to form a valid quorum with a task that get's to run all 16 jobs successfully, without RCx=...etc, would it make sense to send a signal to a ''late'' client to cut the calculation short to just the minimum? In example:

Copy _0 is returned by a fast/reliable client in 12 hours, takes 8 hours to compute.
Copy _1 is not yet reported at that point in time.

When copy _0 has received confirmed the Ready to Report clearance, the server readies a signal to the _1 to compute minimum only. If _1 was already started, ignore, else if happened to have connected to server, follow request to compute short.

The logic would only work for all 16 jobs completed in a task. Of course there are buts such as ''what if the completed task fails on first validation attempt?". Maybe these fast returned tasks could pass through some kind of pre-validation, if that were possible.

Thinking out loud ;))

PS: Of course, if the idea was already proposed [gray cells failing, think we had an intentional slow/fast quorum pairing before], all credit to her/him for coming up with same, before me ;O)

Sekerob, cleanenergy mention a few months ago ( i think in Janurary) that they are working on a new design so that there will only 1 copy of each WU sent out. However, I thought he/she mention that it would only a short amount of time before they can release a beta level, yet we have heard of nothing. Something more important must have came up, like everywhere else.

There was also talk of creating a feature that allowed us crunchers to decide whether to allow the CEP2 WU's to run longer than the 12hr cut off limit. Thus, it may be this that's taking a little longer to prepare/test in the background than what was originally thought.

I'm personally hoping though, that there'll be a Beta test coming up soon...

Re: CEP2: Saving CPU time, by cutting the second reporter short at minimum.

Well, traced and could not find a prior proposal to cut number 2 short if first returner did the task in full. Think ''emotionally'' no one would have an issue with this instead of being pre-designated to only get the shorter.

Coincidence wanted the below quorum to complete from my quad:

E202246_ 862_ A.24.C20H15N3S.79.1.set1d06_ 2-- 640 Valid 27-5-11 17:37:56 28-5-11 06:41:54 7.02 129.7 / 150.3 < moi
E202246_ 862_ A.24.C20H15N3S.79.1.set1d06_ 1-- 640 Valid 27-5-11 14:21:34 27-5-11 15:29:02 0.30 32.0 / 28.2

The first to return only did 1 job of 16, then bowed out with a RC - 0x1 and got the dandy credit equivalent of 94 per hour. Great deal ;P
