Re: "The survivors"

Mexico!
Some years ago I worked as a contractor for Telmex in Mexico City.

Florida!
Used to live there but got tired of the two seasons; hot and hotter.

Good luck on your trip and hope you have a great time.

Florida is a good place to go for Thanksgiving or Christmas, if one does not like snow biggrin

Re: "The survivors"

Just got back from a trip to Florida. (not Disneyland). Now i'm reminded of why i left - crowds, traffic, lack of mountains.

It seems 4 HCC betas flew thru here yesterday, and i didn't even see 'em. (All valid, of course. the abacus doesn't mess around!)

Buena Suerte on your trip to Mexico. I worked with some Mexican engineers (in Ecuador, of all places), and enjoyed their company. biggrin

Re: "The survivors"

There is BOINC software and at least one project that will run on an Android cell phone.
Plan to give it a try just to say I did it.

One feature I just don't get is texting.
Why would I want to do interactive chat when I can use voice in real time?
Texting is to voice what telegraph is to telephone.
The Andy Griffith show had the phone of the future--just pick it up and tell it who you want to talk to.

back when sons were in high school had several friends over to play game on internet
5-6 guys upstairs - all in the same room - all on the internet playing same game and TYPING TO EACH OTHER d oh

Re: "The survivors"

There are a couple of web sites that I use that can't be reached.
The stats on free-dc.org
WCG signature ranking on photobucket.
They have been down for at least a week.

HCC shows 104 days of work remaining but it is going fast and will last maybe 10 days.
I was hoping to get 10 years but will be lucky to get 8.

HFCC is down to 51 days of work remaining.
Will run this when HCC is exhausted.
Hope to get 10 years here and now have 5.
Not sure that there is enough work left to reach my goal.

Averaging 24.6 days of run time per calendar day it will take 14.8 calendar days to get 1 year of run time.
Running 25 CPUs 24/7/365 and won't/can't do more.
At this rate will have a sapphire globe (42 years) in about 12 weeks.

Re: "The survivors"

When I got a new LG Optimus G E970 Android phone the AT&T store didn't keep my old iPhone3.
Seems that I would have no use for it so why did they throw it in the bag with the new phone?
After all it has no service.
But does it?

When it is within wi-fi range it does everything but voice and ALL of the apps WORK and UPDATE.
So my old iPhone is now a really small iPad.
Email works just fine.

My wife plays Words With Friends on hers and I use LogMeIn on mine.
(LogMeIn is free on iPhone but not free on Android.)
LogMeIn gives me access to all 5 computers from anywhere in the house.
That is really handy for checking on WCG.

I was worried about loss of apps when moving from iPhone to Android but there is no reason for concern.
I now have access to every app on iPhone and Android.

So, if you update your cell phone don't throw away the old unit.

Also, rumor has it the YouTube app on the Android works like a remote control if you hook your TV to the phone.
Isn't that special?
