HCC has a 7-day deadline for normal WUs and a 3-day deadline for repair WUs.
----------------------------------------My opinion is that when computing queue size you must consider the repairs deadline as being the earliest deadline. In addition, running HCC CPU and CPU+GPU in one project should count as 2 projects when calculating max queue size. That makes a big difference. The correct queue size for running HCC CPU and CPU+GPU is 1.5 days. The scheduler does NOT do a good job of distinguishing between CPU tasks and GPU tasks if you run a mix. I am running 2 CPU threads and 6 GPU threads on one i7. With the queue set to 3-3.5 days the scheduler will download more CPU WUs than I can possibly process before the 7-day deadline. That setting puts me into panic mode and I can't get out without aborting tasks. Running with queue size of 2-days seems to be okay but if I get a lot of repairs, which I have, then I may begin missing deadlines. I can't remember the percentage of CPU and GPU repairs that the i7 gets but they always have a 3-day deadline. On the other PCs that run strictly CPU WUs a queue size of 3 days is okay because I don't get a lot of repairs on those PCs.. Sounds crazy, but that is my experience. Here in Georgia it has snowed twice and there are snow and black ice advisories in effect. Believe it or not there was a ski resort in Sky Valley, Georgia. Here is a picture of the Sky Valley Chapel. ![]() ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

gretchch, congratulations on the Sapphire in HPF2.
----------------------------------------I agree that DDDT2 is impossible to get a badge as they make it difficult to get WUs--for that reason I have given up. BETA is also a slow process unless you have a lot of PCs. I have been running HCC and it is a fact that running a GPU does nothing to help with accumulating run time for better badges, but wow, it really helps with results and points. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

RCC - nice picture. We got 4 inches Saturday. Most people stayed home and some that were out couldn't get home so it became a night in a motel. The snow piled up fast because Saturday morning it was 20.1 F degrees at about 9 AM and the ground was frozen hard, no melting when the flakes hit the ground around 1130AM.

Burno, can't tell you how much I miss snow (because I don't).
----------------------------------------Same goes for ice and wind chill. But, to get the 4-seasons I can put up with a day or so. ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

By myself, without the team members that joined in the last couple years the results would be nothing to rave about.

This is a test.
----------------------------------------1. Your PC runs tasks at high priority, what should you do? 2. How much faster do tasks run at high priority? 3. BOINC is running tasks with later deadlines before those with close deadlines; what should you do? 4. Can you make tasks run faster by running BOINC at high priority? 5. What happens to your GUI response time if you run BOINC at elevated priority? 6. Should BOINC have a user controlled "Run FIFO" option? 7. BOINC is missing deadlines, what should you do? 8. Why is it that on your "My results" page the total run time is all over when you run the same number of hours each day? 9. Where can you get a current snapshot of your BOINC points and RAC? 10. BOINC is showing that tasks are stuck uploading, what should you do? I have answers for those questions; do you? ![]() ![]() Please join the team The survivors ![]() |

Here are Burno's answers:
1. Hope my PC knows what it is doing. 2. Way faster than at medium priority. 3. Hope that BOINC knows what it is doing. 4. Nah, I have enough tasks to do around here myself, I can't worry about BOINC, he's on his own. 5. Things get a little sticky. 6. Why not, as long as I don't have to do anything. 7. See answer number 3. 8. My PC likes to loaf around sometimes and gets lazy. 9. At the same place where they explain widgets and thing-a-ma-bobs. 10. Tell BOINC to take a phase 6 with key 22, it works every time. Burno's score: 1 point for getting his name right. |

I'd give Bruno a 10 for not obsessing over all of this like some of us do. It is possible to set-and-forget and still keep on crunching.

Thanks new team members for helping to reach number 204 on WCG.
Great chart RCC. deltavee, little mermaid, and the rest of the rowdies from team Basecamp gave the Survivors a great boost with their trek here back in September, 2011. And the trend continues with some real 'Power Crunchers' remaining. This is a fun team to crunch with. Now can we go to Disney World? ![]() |
