I did not see this mentioned, sorry if redundant:
----------------------------------------It is best to exit BOINC prior to shutdown, from the BOINC icon in the systray, and check the box which says "Stop running science applications..." Hope this helps. |

I observed that problem, too.
----------------------------------------After a shutdown some DSFL-workunits failed. After I got two or three errors, I used the 'hibernation' mode as workaround. If I had to shutdown my computer due to system changes, I would let finish the current workunit and would suspend the next. Afterwards I restart the computer and I did not receive any error for DSFL. ![]() |

The speed of shutdown, lock up of files before fully written to disk may have something to do with this. An old ailment starting to show with Vista.
No need to let tasks finish. On Windows, open BOINC Manager, then do an exit with option to stop service if so installed [do not tick the "remember this decision", prior to booting. Stopping the service in Task Manager [dont kill the process], also works fine without risking task corruption on shutdown. Then count to 10 before starting the shutdown, via the menu of course and not via the power cycle switch. --//-- |

Hi I do this too and do not have such problem...I fix pc's for a living and always use the shut down from the menu. It just seems strange. And for example my own laptop get's shutdown and rebooted a lot, and it never gets an error state on any of the running WCG projects... I had that problem only exactly one time, when I had to reboot a customer's PC with WCG running before and that had a rootkit virus removed. In that clean-up process, something related to the WCG WUs must have been corrupted, newly retrieved WUs worked fine after that and the PC has been reboot/shutdown several times since... Ralf ![]() |

I've read this thread, maybe I have similiar problem, or WUs are corrupted?
It happened twice with: GO Fight Against Malaria And once with: Drug Search for Leishmaniasis http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,32195 Or maybe its client related, some exiting issues, I have Win7 64bit, the newest client 6.12.34, c2q q9300. ERRORS: Application exited with RC = 0xc000013a 09:26:37 (1872): called boinc_finish and Unable to update graphics data. Application exited with RC = 0xc0000142 12:12:27 (2188): called boinc_finish |

mrjinks, do you use the WCG/Boinc screensaver? Maybe thre is a graphic issue.
----------------------------------------Just put a blank (black screen) like I do. You will use less power and less CPU resources. ![]() |

I have exactly the same problem with RC = 0xc000013a when I start my computer after previous shut down. So far it seems to be related with DSFL and GFAM only. Of course I always use standard shut down button from the menu. It's a little bit awkward since I am not the only user of this PC. I can try your tips mysefl(stop the services before shutting-down) but i can't expect from the other users of this PC to do the same. If it persists I will have to stop those two projects for a while. Here is part of the log. Errors happened at 10:46/10:47 but i dont see anything suspicious there.

Think you guys are looking at the wrong portion of the Result log. Somewhere near the top you'll probably find the major fail cause Exit code 195. If so, that is currently one of the targets in the last running beta to resolve. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...ad,31667_offset,50#346337
The techs also have the repeated suspicion of the AV/Security forces interfering. --//-- |
