Any new projects in the works? Keep a look out for a sizable beta that does not look to be related to any existing project - either in WUs or in the Beta Forums. That's the best hint of anything coming. You normally won't get anything "official" in the forums though there is the occasional really good rumor. Sometimes, they don't even "officially" announce a new project when it starts but delay that for a project=specific reason. |

Hi all, after getting the sapphire badge for GFAM i am switching back my 30 cores to HCC. Lets see if we can break the results record of 4091 another time this year ! Cheers, Gerard Ask and you shall receive!  We broke the results record today and the points one while we were at it! |

...Next, my internet connection was down. I like to think that I am a reasonable fellow. Others might not agree but I prefer to think that despite the fact that it might be delusional. But to expect me to be easy going without coffee borders on lunacy. So, I look up the telephone number of Windstream. For those of you that don't know that name, it is a sorta rural phone company and since I am sorta rural, they are my phone company. Now if there is one thing that you would think a telephone company should have it is a telephone. To be fair, I think Windstream does but they were both busy the dozen or so times that I tried to call. That is probably a good thing since my mood was North of angry and had we discussed it, I still might not have service. Finally of course, my internet service came back and now I am more or less happy. Actually, they must still be flushing some rust out of the pipes or something because it still seems to hiccup intermittently. I suppose that they just took their phone off the hook because they were both busy hunting the internet connection service problem..... Wow! I think their problem this morning must have been pretty bad! My DSL here with them was out too. As best as I can tell, it went out about 6AM here and was out for about 3.5 hours. As first, their 800 number as busy so I knew plenty of folks were calling. Normally, that doesn't happen with their usual outages. After a few redials, I got their recording that they were having problems and had escalated it to the proper group (loved that phrasing - though I almost suspect the real problem was with another company they use for some part of their infrastructure). The recording said I could hold and I would be transferred to a rep but the recording just kept repeating. A short bit later, the recording went from a female voice to a male voice that simply said they knew about the problem that could make it difficult to load web pages and send mail (loved that phrasing too), that it had been escalated, that they would update the message when they had new info, and then hung up on you. |
