Re: Latest version of Boinc client

I am currently using BOINC 6.12.34 and am not having any problems at this time. Should I downgrade to the WCG client? Would there be any benefit using 10.10.58?

My current hardware and software are as follows;

Starting BOINC client version 6.12.34 for windows_x86_64
Processor: 12 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU X 980 @ 3.33GHz [Family 6 Model 44 Stepping 2]
Processor: 256.00 KB cache
OS: Microsoft Windows 7: Ultimate x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00)
Memory: 23.99 GB physical, 47.98 GB virtual
Disk: 919.11 GB total, 776.25 GB free
ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 5800 series (Cypress) (CAL version 1.4.1607, 1024MB, 2320 GFLOPS peak)
ATI GPU 1: ATI Radeon HD 5800 series (Cypress) (CAL version 1.4.1607, 1024MB, 2320 GFLOPS peak)

If you ONLY crunch for WCG, which is not likely seeing your gpus, it is probably best to stick with what WCG likes. But for instance Einstein REQUIRES the new 7.0.2 Development version to run, other Projects each have their own requirements. As long as WCG is working just fine for you there is no reason to downgrade. Who knows you could downgrade today and WCG could upgrade tomorrow anyway, isn't that just Murphy's Law! I have NO IDEA if WCG will upgrade or not, I am JUST a cruncher!!

Re: Latest version of Boinc client

WCG would beta test the kit, and WCG is skipping 6.12 for sure, though they have enabled the notices function and use it to for instance tell of webcasts done for X or Y science. The techs indicated that the GPU crunch will work with 6.10.58 for both NVidia and ATI/AMD. A WCG version will be a code audited [stable] version before it gets the WCG moniker slapped on, so am anticipating it will be a long while before this first major 7.xx release will even get a glance.

(Sorry if sounding like a scratched record, stuck in 1 track).
