It's good to see these systems being used for crunching instead of playing Turbo-Pacman. Who needs 'World of Warcraft' when we have the enthralling Boinc-stats?
Congrats on the new machine and to Intel and AMD crunch-geeks everywhere. |

5pot,
----------------------------------------Do you know if your motherboard supports unlocking cores? Because if your Athlon is the AMD Athlon II X4 640 you may not only unlock 2 extra cores but also 6MB of L3 cache which would speed it up turning it into a AMD Phenom II X6 1405T as shown here Might be worth checking it out. Alas, it would appear that my cpu was destined as a four core with no L3 from the beginning...
However, I DO have an MSI board that allows for this unlocking of cores. So...... I think you just gave me another project. Finding a cheap processor to turn into a beast!!!!! Thanks for article, it was a great read. |

Just be careful as this sometimes may not work and I believe only AMD allows unlocking cores. Intel charges for doing so.
