FAAH work unit shortage? [RESOLVED]

Hello,

It appears that there's a FAAH work unit shortage lately. I have a 2630qm running FAAH 24/7. Normally, there'll be a FAAH work unit or two queuing on the list, each takes around 10 hrs. (OCing) to 18 hrs. But there is none lately. I had my spare core(s) crunch HPF2 instead. I'd like all of them to do FAAH2 'all the time', if possible. Dr., please clarify.

Thanks!

Re: FAAH work unit shortage?

Hi,

The Dr. is in and takes stethoscope to listen and ask questions: Are your options set to allow other work if FAAH is not available? (The bowel action heard through the [cold] stet applied, says you have). If so, you could set FAAH to exclusive [deselect the "if there is no work for..."] and increase your additional buffer to for instance 1.5 days. That will ensure that if the supply is temporarily scarce, you have more than 2 tasks waiting on your list to bridge those periods.

P.S. Client version 6.10.58 ?

Re: FAAH work unit shortage?

...well, yes.

And, could you explain how would I do the latter one?

I'll try and see whether the trend continues...

Thanks, 'Dr.' !

P.S. Oh, yes. It's 6.10.58, with wxWidgets 2.8.10 (no idea what the latter is).

I think I had everything (on my client's network usage tab) set to 0.00, and I regularly press 'Update' on the Projects > Commands page. Still no change. Did I do it wrong?

Re: FAAH work unit shortage?

First, here's the relevant FAQ with a big screenshot included: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=17033

On the website, go to the My Grid > Device Manager. Select the link next to the computer name [default, home, work, school are the 4 possibles]. If there is only the 5 profile preset selections at top of the opened profile [per the screenshot sample in FAQ], click on custom profile button. Scroll down to "Work Unit Cache" settings section. There's a "Connect every..." and "Cache" aka Additional Buffer [item [27]. Set latter to 1.5 days. That will keep the client in the "reliable" zone to receive repair / rush jobs of FAAH when standard 10 day deadline tasks are not available [temp of course].

When done, hit save, then go to BOINC Manager, Projects tab. Select the WCG line and hit "Update". This will transfer the new settings to the client. And to confirm, in the Advanced or Tools menu of BOINC, select Local/Computing Preferences. In the opened screen hit the Clear button and OK [see first screenshot in FAQ]. This ensures that only your web profile is in charge of your client.

Re: FAAH work unit shortage?

Phew, it's working now!

Now I've got 19 work units on the queue list. XD

Thanks, 'Dr.'!

And, sorry for not thoroughly looking in the support section first!

Re: FAAH work unit shortage? [RESOLVED]

Great, the Dr. ticks off this consultation and notes down the IP address where to send the bill, and asks [patient] to edit opening post title to insert [RESOLVED], so next patient with same discomfort knows not to check in, but read the anamnese.

The additional advantage of this is [the vitamine pills, on the house], that next time WCG goes on an outage for maintenance like last Friday, your client is well stocked to bridge the server interruption.

Crunch On.

Re: FAAH work unit shortage? [RESOLVED]

Hi 'Dr Sekerob', hi aptx.4869, hi everybody!

I didn't mean to restart this thread [RESOLVED], but it appears that my BOINC turned off by itself and wouldn't get new tasks. I didn't notice it wasn't running any task, so I can't tell the whole time it didn't run. Anyway, no problem to be solved at all. I just wanted to include this message in order to hear from anyone who would have noticed the same happening.

Regards.
