 Good Morning MOT Congratulations finman! ..With IE, you have "temporary internet files". Do Safari, Firefox or Chrome have the same sort of thing? Yes they do. They are lots of things in those files. The web page itself, any client-side code* like JavaScript and of course cookies. Users computers store a copy of the web page on your disk in a cache. This allows you to go back to that page without going back across the net (important on dial-up). Things in the caches have expiration dates. Some very brief and some last days. When the time on the cache file runs out, your computer will refetch the page across the net (but only if you call for it again). You can force a refresh using the refresh button. That is often used when you are changing a web page frequently (something I do frequently working with clients). * client side code is what makes web pages smart. Like the validation of telephone numbers or making sure you have filled out all the fields on a form or even the simple browser games you see. Code that is part of the web page and is downloaded with all the rest of the web page. Hey gang. Tomorrow is not guaranteed; make the most of today! Reason I ask is that I normally go into IE's Internet Options and delete these temporary internet files before I defrag my machines. No point defragging them. Good Morning MOT Hum... Stats showed that I had machines down. Woops. Working on getting them running again. Keith. I don't know where Chrome stores its temp internet files. You can go to the "wrench" icon, click it and then scoot down to the "advanced settings" and clear it under "Privacy (clear browsing data...)" On Firefox just hit "Ctl+Shift+Del" (supposed to work  )Use this day like it is one of your last ones and be very kind to someone today. Please |

I had machines down a couple of days ago. It was caused by Windows installing updates and I had not completed the reboot.
Saturdays I reserve for taking my wife to breakfast and coffee at Starbucks followed by a movie and a stop at Costco. |

Right, I'm sure the other browsers call it something other than "temporary internet files". Reason I ask is that I normally go into IE's Internet Options and delete these temporary internet files before I defrag my machines. No point defragging them. Wondering what the other browsers do with their cache so I can clear those too before defragging. I use Firefox, and I want to clean these files up from time to time. I think the files must be located in a directory. I don't know if they can all be purged without harming the content of the cookies I use to speed my own processing in the system. |
