Each of the researches on the dashboard has an estimated X days left and a feeder priority indicator. Work volume as you were told is an unknown/morphable/expandable/shrinkable number [entirely in hands of scientists].
But for the collection of information on the dashboard sheet http://bit.ly/WCGDSH, the only official project status you get is this: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewProjects.do grouped in 3 classes: Active, Intermittent [DDDT2], Complete. Sorry we bothered you with thousands of propaganda words in the FAQs. We're about WCG ;P --//-- |

I know - we do not know, even scientists do not know. ;)
... but when new batch WUs will be created and started to be sent to users, then it is already known: - how many WUs were created; - how many WUs have already been sent; - how many WUs were still waiting to be sent; - how many WUs have already been returned. and that is all I need. This is basic information available in any BOINC project. In each, but not in the WCG. |

It's with anything *marketed*. If you advertise it often enough, demand is *created*. You *need* it, most don't. Myself... it would be a nice, but being mostly a mix WCG cruncher, whatever comes of the selection and running with 1 day cache, never a moments idling.
P.S. How many returned: See http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewGlobal.do .. We've just done over 1 billion http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/about_us/viewNewsArticle.do?articleId=203 and a thread going when we predict to hit 2 billion http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,33383 ;>) (plz do not repeat what goes onto a project, feeder or server status pages in standard BOINC format, *we know*, the techs know) --//-- |

If you're not going to monitor the thread (New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!... If only that was what that thread was for rather than the ridiculous "lets bung everything in to one thread" it has unfortunately become, given that most of the posts in the thread are not really related to the title. Posts range from "new batch released" (as in the thread title) but has numerous posts of "I didn't get any", "when is the next batch", "I got some", "I got errors" and "How do you get these units". It is already over 2300 posts long! If you read the first post in that thread (from almost 2 years ago!) it says it is being started to make it easier to find out what is going on with the next release of units because the original thread was too long. The current one is over twice as big and shows no sign of ending. To me, it makes it far more difficult to find out what's going on because of having to skim through numerous unrelated posts. When a new post is added to that thread, you have no idea whether it is because a new batch has been released or just a general chit-chat about the project. Especially when it comes to errors, why are these posts put in the "raining" thread? How about making it easier for the techs to find these posts by always having them in a thread of their own? While taking in to account that this project is unlike any other for the release of units but no other project has a thread remotely like the DDDT2 Rain thread. Or do we go with having one thread for each project where we put all our posts? ![]() [TLDR] DDDT2 Rain thread is well past its use by date ![]() |

Indeed, a status page would be good. I realise there may be reasons why this is not in place as of yet.
----------------------------------------However, with the Rain thread it would be nice if that is what the thread was for with all the general flotsam and jetsam in a separate thread but as it is at the moment, any information on the status of the project is just lost is a sea of other posts. Unfortunately, I don't see any change happening to that thread any time soon. Will just have to get the old welly boots on to wade through the thread. On that note, I'm off to listen to Here Comes The Rain Again by The Eurythmics. |

Indeed, a status page would be good. I realise there may be reasons why this is not in place as of yet. We have a saying: Don't be a fool, use the right tool. But what if no tool exists but there is a need that only the right tool can facilitate? What happens is that the closest thing available for a tool is used. The other side of this is that any tool is used for the wrong purpose -- and that is what happened to the 'Rain' thread. The orig motivation may have been to express some celebration that there is a flood/rain of WUs where there was once drought/no-rain. Essentially, that was a question of WU-availability. To the extent that the nature of the science affects the capability to make WUs, then information about this is supposed to be covered by a 'project-status'. But what if there is neither a project-status nor a server-status? You have WU-information_blackout and the 'Rain' thread has become a surrogate_project-status or a surrogate_server-status, or for that matter, a surrogate_for-everything-else status -- unmistakably a malady from any angle. However, with the Rain thread it would be nice if that is what the thread was for with all the general flotsam and jetsam in a separate thread but as it is at the moment, any information on the status of the project is just lost is a sea of other posts. Unfortunately, I don't see any change happening to that thread any time soon. Will just have to get the old welly boots on to wade through the thread. Those who are aware of how the 'Rain' thread has lost its focus and its bearings (in space and time) -- is wise to start a new thread (with a specific title) or peruse other threads (with a specific title). On that note, I'm off to listen to Here Comes The Rain Again by The Eurythmics. Hmm... if I understand your post correctly, I'm betting that you do not want to listen to that song, but then again, you may have meant an irony... ![]() </comment> ; |

Alas, I think it is an unslayable behemoth.
