I'll always remember driving through the Mojave years ago. It was in March and it was not only snowing but it was sticking to the ground. Intellectually, I could understand that it was simply a matter of being cold enough. Still, the visual image of snow sticking to the ground in a desert really messed with my mind! BTW, there was still snow on the ground when I got to the Grand Canyon a few days later. That's a sight any time of year but snow adds an extra demension to it.

Sandy was a no show here. It is windy today but that is from the cold front coming through. Looks like it will come up through Philly. At least Gerald won't be on the northeast side of the storm. That is usually the worst. Still, he'll see a lot of rain and wind so will likely lose power. It's the folks north and east of Philly that will have the worst. Jersey, NYC, Long Island are not looking at good odds as the surge will hit close to a full moon high tide, just making the surge worse. I don't think we have anyone in that area but we definitely have plenty of crunchers up that way, regardless of team. I hope and pray for the best for everyone.
