I've noticed something I've deemed (potentially) odd about the Clean Energy Project units running on my computer. I have 4 going at once, and I've noticed on numerous occasions now that project units will abruptly jump to 100%. Some will work up to ~20% and then jump to 100%. Others will work up to 60% and then jump abruptly to 100%. And others seem to work all the way up to 100% like I would expect them to, and like the project units for other projects do. The percentage at which they abruptly jump to 100% is usually different every time it happens.
----------------------------------------Is this normal? Or is my computer screwing up all these Clean Energy Project units that it is working on? I haven't been able to find anywhere else that describes this problem(?) occurring for other people. Maybe it's normal? Any insight would be appreciated. Hi jamie86,
----------------------------------------There are several possible reasons for what you are describing here, but first things first: I think there are at least two things you could do to help the people that will try to answer your questions - post the configuration of your machine; - take a look at the My Grid/Results status page and see what happens to those units: e.g. are they validated or on error. It would probably be a good idea to take a look at the log of one or two of those units (click on its status - Valid, Error) and post it here. Cheers! Knowledge is limited. I'm assuming you mean specs of my system? It's a brand new HP Probook 4530s laptop. Core i5 2450M 2.50 GHz, 4 GB ram, 64 bit OS, Win 7.
Or were you referring to the BOINC settings? The My Grid/Results status page doesn't seem to show a lot of items.... Most say "in progress" which I assume is because I have them downloaded and queued. There are two that say "valid" though and a couple that say "pending validation". There aren't any that say "error" but again the vast majority say "in progress". Doesn't look like there is a full history there of everything I've worked on. Here's one of the log files that said "valid" Result Log Result Name: E209371_ 013_ C.29.C24H15N3SeSi.01913287.1.set1d06_ 0-- <core_client_version>6.10.58</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> INFO: No state to restore. Hi jamie86,
----------------------------------------The answer is fairly straightforward. A CEP2 task consists of 16 jobs, each dependent on the result of the previous job completed. When all 16 are done you see a steady completion from 0 to 100%. In the case of a device not fast enough or the task too complex for the home computer [yes there are], the job is cut off at 12 CPU hours [something which is planned to be extended to 24 hours IIRC]. So if for instance at job#5 the 12 hours is reached, you see the skip forward. But, you also see the skip forward if the program has determined that there is no point to continue [no useful information found or an outlier condition]. Then you also see this skipping forward. How to check? Go to My Grid > Result Status and find the result you saw this on. Click on the link in the status column [Valid, Error, Pending Validation etc]. This will open the Result Log list with the steps and the time it took. A task with for instance a line that goes "RC = ..." is one of those that are cut off, but generally any task that does not show computation through job#15, has been ended because of a reason or time exceed. cheers edit: While I was typing you replied with a few perfect examples, with cut-off and "skipping ...". Still deemed valid... not your computers fault that no useful data was found to proceed to the end or it taking too long. [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 3, 2012 8:01:24 AM] |

I clicked on the name of the ones that said "valid". This is what I got from one of them...
Formatting is messed up here with the "paste". But it looks like my computer did this one 3 times?? the middle time was an error, but it only worked on it for .35 hours. The other 2 times it says 7 hrs and 9 hrs. Hi jamie86,
----------------------------------------Yes, I meant the specs of your machine. By the looks of it, I see no problem here. The CEP2 tasks do not need to run "all the way" to be marked as valid. As you can probably tell by the two examples you've provided, they usually are "happy" running up to task 12 and skipping the rest. Whoop! Looks like SekeRob came to the rescue! By the way, if your question is answered, don't forget to edit the title of your thread to [RESOLVED] Cheers! Edit: sorry, not the correct link. I'll post it as soon as I find a more relevant one Edit2: no need for links, the day is saved by SekeRob...again! Btw, sounds like we are in for a treat if the "deadline" is pushed to 24 hours. That means we'll get to see more units running the full 16 job set! Knowledge is limited.
