In my very limited time at collatz with my modest GPUs I was able to achieve a great amount of points compared to my all-time CPU BOINC credit (see my sig). This is many years of multiple CPUs vs. several days on 2 laptop GPUs.
And yes, sadly there are people that are only interested in points and not in what they crunch. |

1. I know from reading posts here and at other projects that some will not crunch for a project based in the states.
1a. IBM's name is on it. 2. Also the fact that you can't join from a stats site like boincstats is holding people from joining. 3. Misinformation is also a problem too. From a PG forum. quote: I have never [considered] WCG to be trully [a] BOINC project (different client, forum etc.). 4. No GPU project. All somewhat trivial, but that's what I have read in the 13 years of crunching. |

yes, if WCG gave more points per hour all the world resources would be here :D

Hopefully more projects from WCG go gpu. Looking at how many projects are using gpu, think it would be more cost effective to build cheap quad core systems that can use 2 or more GPU's per system. Seems the 7000 series AMD GPU's are more energy efficient than the older ones. Don't know about nvidia since I never use them.

rilian, you'd think so? The people that *know* think it'd make little difference. The system 700 - SETI credit rules were implemented [with some legacy], and what did happen to that element? [A fried system not capable to handle variable run times] 6+ months on and the difference is still miles away some other projects dole out. Don't think WCG will ever play with loaded dice on [more credit]... that's near guarantee. Right now there is no balance at all. The mood of the minute by what is logged in my WCGDAWS tool.

Edit: HCC - Based in Canada (and drawing in databases from across the world). That's one of my favorite things about WCG -- it's a "world community" with respect to both the sciences and the volunteers. I too hope that WCG will be able to get HCC for GPUs off the ground soon, and that that sets the stage for more GPU-based WCG sciences. For applications that are suitable for GPU implementation, the GPUs can just get so much more computing done in less time than CPUs -- so as to make the benefits of the science available sooner. ![]() |

yes, if WCG gave more points per hour all the world resources would be here :D No, even DiRT is having the highest RAC, less than 0.8 % of active BOINC-users crunches this project. While some users only goes after the credit, the majority of users goes after the project they're interested in, and only joins other projects as backup-projects. A few projects has little or no work most of the time so the backup-projects gets the majority of crunching-time. BTW, even projects like Collatz and probably DiRT and a few of the other GPU-projects can be done with very little cpu-usage, meaning users can get very high total BOINC-credit but still put 99% of cpu-power to their CPU-only project of choise, few users takes advantage of this and instead runs only the CPU-project. ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
