Is 7.0.28 confirmed to be working with Windows 8 ?

I have this version on my Windows 8 machine and I just realized that almost every result I returned is in error.

That goes on page after page. Is it "normal" to have so many units rejected or is there a problem on that device ? Everything seems ok on my Windows 7 and my Windows 2008 server machines.

It's not normal to have any errors with HCC, except if tries a GPU-card that's missing neccessary features or there's some other problems with computer or installation.

As for windows 8, don't remember if you'll need to use atleast v7.0.31 to not have any problems with windows 8 or if v7.0.28 maybe works. But, in either case, I would recommend you'll try v7.0.36, since this has various other bug-fixes and atleast in my experience works good.

To download v7.0.36, use for 64-bit http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.0.36_windows_x86_64.exe or for 32-bit use http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.0.36_windows_intelx86.exe

Re: Is 7.0.28 confirmed to be working with Windows 8 ?

Hi EricGagne,

Click on the Error link of the Result Status page and copy it to a reply so we can see what the log is telling. The message log stored in the stdoutdea.txt file would also give information if the tasks actually crashed.

As for Windows 8, there's a sticky post about the version and Mac OS-X [asked knreed to sticky it over *all* forums so how hard is that to miss?]. 7.0.31 is minimum if installed clean. Earlier versions work if BOINC was already installed prior to upgrading to Windows 8.

WCG is now testing the code for security issues and alpha testing in house [with some WCG specific kit customization such as branding]. Will be November / December before version XX will be endorsed. The noted 7.0.36 is stable, but some odd repeatable crash reports are noted. Some really odd ones such as if you hit key A + X with your arms crossed and then type BOINC with your eyes closed, in reverse order, the manager freezes. wink I've been test running 7.0.36 on W7 and on the Linux 12.10 nightly build [with a .deb port] and got no complaints, but for a BOINC Manager menu on Linux that is in reverse order [Help is left, File menu is right... Arabic style]

Re: Is 7.0.28 confirmed to be working with Windows 8 ?

A stupid mistake from my part I guess. I saw the sticky and used the link but I ended up insalling 7.0.28 because it's marked as Recommended while 7.0.31 says "For testing only".

The error seems to be related to a missing file or a problem accessing one that is there.

I will try 7.0.31 and see if it works.

hmmm, there's an FAQ on the Start Here FAQ Index for that error. You've got some missing Graphics component OTTOMH.

Thanks Rob. I looked at the FAQ and got my answer, the ATI SDK is not installed on that machine. I will install it when I get home and post back if it fixes the problem

Upgrading to 7.0.31 and installing the ATI SDK did the trick. I'm returning valid results for HCC now :)
