HCC GPU WUs are "Invalid"

I already posted this in another thread but didn't get an answer that convinced me (so I'll try with a separate post). I did a brief scan to see if somebody else has this specific issue, but didn't find anything that looked similar. I found out that one of my machines (one that I don't always have access to) "apparently" can crunch the GPU WUs for HCC. I say "apparently" because the GPU is recognized and WUs are downloaded, but when the WUs are validated they are marked as Invalid. The computer is an HP laptop and the card is showing as ATI Mobility HD Radeon 5400 series. Besides the Results log, What other info do I need to post ? The only recommendation that I got was to run the latest vers of BOINC manager... so, what is the official BOINC vers for WCG? I'm currently running 6.10.58.

Thanks,

CJSL

Re: HCC GPU WUs are "Invalid"

I don't know if it is related, but when I run only one single GPU WU at a time, I do not get Invalid WUs. When I run 4 at a time in parallel on GPU I get some Invalids...

GPU @ stock frequrncies so should not be due to OC'ing of the GPU. Haven't tried with three or two WUs at a time but will try that later perhaps. Still, a vast majority of WUs turn out valid. Running an ATI HD7970.

However, I see from the log file that you are running version 6 of BOINC, please download and try version 7.0.28, since from what I have heared, version 6 has problems with HCC GPU...

Re: HCC GPU WUs are "Invalid"

@ cjslman
so, what is the official BOINC vers for WCG? I'm currently running 6.10.58.

SekeRob posted Oct 19:
WCG is now testing the code for security issues and alpha testing in house [with some WCG specific kit customization such as branding]. Will be November / December before version XX will be endorsed. The noted 7.0.36 is stable, but some odd repeatable crash reports are noted

The consensus of opinion (for effective GPU crunching) appears to be that BOINC 7.0.36 is the version to be used.

CL_DEVICE_NAME: Cedar

I was also getting Invalids after my non-error'd WU's were compared against wingmen with apparently better/quicker cards. Poor cedar is a lost cause. beat up

Re: HCC GPU WUs are "Invalid"

I also have a Cedar that only returns invalids. I had a message 'your graphics card is unable to run the HCC GPU workunits' for about a week but this disappeared and it started downloading again. I have now diasabled my GPU computing as I don't want to waste one of my i7 cores on returning invalids.

That's the one I have, too. All results invalid. I guess it should be excluded from work by the server? Or, better, the problem gets fixed... wink

@cjslman: you said: I'm currently running 6.10.58.<--- That is most likely your problem. Update boinc.
