shall see how the various goops work then
![]() <---happy with her thermalright, though proud of her stock sink for being able to carry it's weight for so long before it. ![]() |

The MX-1 is still stuck at 46C with a 29C Mobo
----------------------------------------Maybe a miracle will occur on Tuesday ![]() Looks like I might have to invest in some Arctic Silver ![]() |

All I use is artic silver here in Florida....I have several computer right next to each other and then run 24/7 with no problems....I learned a long time ago to spend the extra money on a good heatsink and the paste to attach it...

It would be just the job pwrguru
----------------------------------------And the answer you have all been waiting on the edge of your seats all day for is.................... I've placed the order for some Arctic Silver 5 ![]() With MX-1 it's 47C with a 28C Motherboard !!!!! the heatsink compound is not on the northbridge chip though so it's got worse not better after 200 hours My last chance with Silver Paste is Arctic Silver 5 otherwise it back to the white gloop for me. I'll post back in this "cool" thread with my findings ![]() |

Of course a decent heatsink has to be part of the mix..doesn't matter how good the thermal paste if the heatsink and fan don't pull their weight.

I use artic silver too with great results. here is how i use it:
1. I meticulously clean both the heatsink and CPU with alcohol and a 100% white cotton t-shirt sleeve. 2. Then i rub a glob of silver paste into the heatsink surface and then wipe it off completely with a dry clean portion t-shirt sleeve. this fills the pores with the paste without creating a physical barrier. Do not clean heatsink with alcohol after this. 3. Then I take my cpu out of the socket and do the same to it, but being extremely careful not to get any paste on the other portions of the cpu. Also be careful not to touch or bend the pins. I have a spare socket from an old toasted mobo i use to protect the cpu. 4. then i lay a very thin bead of paste along one side of the cpu, maybe the thickness of dental floss. 5. i take a brand new razor blade and drag it over the cpu placing a razor thin layer of paste across the surface of the chip. i clean the razor blade and then use it to scrape off any paste trying to get on the other parts of the cpu. 6. Carefully install the cpu, then heatsink. Voilla, done. It does indeed lower about 10c over the next few days, but it should be cool enough right out the gate. My last PC, a P4 2.4 ghz was at maybe 45c and creeped done to about 35c after a week with a thermaltake big typhoon HSF. when it comes to silver paste, less is more. Others may have better techniques, but that works for me. |

Arctic Silver 5 applied and still running at 47C
----------------------------------------I'll give it a chance I'll give it the 200 hour burn in. I'll keep you posted In the Autumns household at the moment the Standard White Silicone Gloop takes it by a nose ![]() ![]() |
