Thanks mycroft--I think i will reinstall the heatsink but i will have to now get some of the famous---white gloop if you are reinstalling the heat sink... make sure that the thermal phase material... the grey sticky stuff is fully removed. If you havent removed your CPU fan prior to this and those are the temps you are getting... then 1) warranty... because a properly AMD 64 installed with the standard phase change should be nowhere near that temp. Please let me know what happened. If you havent removed the fan yourself then some one at the shop must have royally scr**** the pooch installing the CPU fan. |

i've been using artic silver 5 along with a azetec/frozencpu.com watercooling system on my prescott p4 3.4, i've been able to overclock to 4.0ghz stable but after awhile my system temps will rise above 80C so i have to turn it back down, the system's been running since january with wcg going 24/7. compared to the stock intel heatsink and fan i've got a 20+ degree drop in temps
pics here, and a mention on the amd - intel debate... AMD all the way. The only sector that intel still rules is the mobile/notebook market. the dual core x64's completely smack intel in the face. On die memory controller is all I have to say. Plus it still uses the 939 socket so a bios flash and 10 minutes is all you need to upgrade a single core system to a dually |

Use alcohol and a q tip. You should be able to read the markings on the CPu when it is clean. You probably didnt clean off ALL of the old Phase Change Material that came with the cpu originally. We deal in many systems here a day,,,, and we tend to just replace the Phase Change Pad when we remove the cooler for whatever reason. Works for us anyway, as most of these boxes are crunching on Autocad. If properly installed PCM is as good or better than white goop. I seem to remember something from AMD informing us that use of Arctic Silver would void the warranty on the CPU's. Good Luck and holler if you have any questions. |
