Normally I get very few runs aborted to errors, but since about the beginning of December 2012 I've gotten a lot of them, all for Help Conquer Cancer 7.05 (ati_hcc1), typically about 20 tasks a day aborted due to a computation error. All tasks with that suffix suffer computation errors. Other tasks, including Help Conquer Cancer 7.05, but without the (ati_hcc1) suffix, process successfully. It doesn't really mess up my system, as the tasks with errors disappear when my system checks in to report its results, but it would seem to indicate that something is wrong somewhere and that resources are being wasted in downloads, disk space, etc.
Should someone (me?) be doing something differently? |

Hello MAPSIT,
All tasks with that suffix suffer computation errors. If all the GPU tasks downloaded to run on your ATI GPU board fail, then the easiest solution is to change your preferences to avoid GPU computing. Otherwise, you need to embark on the adventure of making your GPU work. For example, are you running the most recent OpenCL drivers? Consider posting the start of your BOINC Messages. What ATI GPU board are you using?Lawrence |

I am getting computation errors also. I am using AMD Radeon HD 6570. 2 gb video memory,Windows 8. Boinc Version 7. 0. 42 (x86)
Where do I get the most recent OpenCL drivers? |

Installed the latest catalyst and openCl Drivers and the work units downloaded. So I am good to go...

Hello Polaray,
This looks like the spot, but I do not have a GPU: http://developer.amd.com/tools/heterogeneous-...nts-driver-compatibility/ Lawrence |

Observations from me:
----------------------------------------Older cards using app_config are prone to error inside the first 16 seconds. Reducing the number of concurrent wu's on each card improves matters. Reducing the overclock a little seems to help too. Increasing the voltage the card runs at seems not really effective for this but if you are getting invalids it is the best way to solve that problem. I have yet to investigate this but it may be that running a different driver will help as, so far, I see that with different machines running different drivers the behaviour of the cards changes. ![]() |

Hi All,
I have an ATI Radeon 6870 gc. I had also problems with the hcc tasks (ati_hcc1), I have updated the catalyst-opencl drivers for my card and it seems to work now, but I have a couple of tasks finished with status (calculation error), can I relaunch them? How? Thanx |

I have yet to investigate this but it may be that running a different driver will help as, so far, I see that with different machines running different drivers the behaviour of the cards changes. On my HD 7770s, I would get errors once every day or so on the drivers prior to 12.11. But with 12.11 beta 11, I get practically no errors. I am presently running two work units on single card (non-display), but have done four with no errors, though that was not for long. I don't recommend pushing the GPU to the limit if you want to avoid errors. Also, I routinely do a clean uninstall of old drivers, especially if you once had an Nvidia card in your system. I uninstall from the control panel first, and then run Driver Fusion. |

How? Thanx Tasks that end with errors can't be relaunched by you. The server will send out an error task to another cruncher to run. If the task errors again the process repeats itself until the task either completes without error and is validated by 2 participants or it continues to produce errors and the server stops sending the task out. If you're using an older version (6.xx.xx) of boinc I would highly recommend you update to a version 7. They are much better optimized to run GPU tasks and as a rule produce far less errors.

Just asking, because some people here have posted that they have had a problems with this driver (Beta 11). Thanks and cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000.
