Hello All... Another Grid/UD Defection

Hi All

I've been around here since the start of the weekend, but I thought I would just pop in to say hello on this thread as I've only really been on my team thread at the moment.

This looks like a friendly forum and once again it's nice to mix with some like minded people who enjoy donating their spare cycles for a good cause!

There seem to be lots of similarities between here and Grid, but also some significant differences. I'm looking forward to chatting to many of you in the forums and if I can use my 4 years of UD/grid knowledge to do any good here then I will (and if I can't then I know plenty of people to ask wink )

Matt/Gordoma (call me either... it's up to you)

Re: Hello All... Another Grid/UD Defection

Thanks for the welcome RT.

I think a lot of people have come over here following the recent UD outages. UD's loss is WCG's gain!

Re: Hello All... Another Grid/UD Defection

Welcome comp_interriz.

Nice to see you here. I crunch because I want to "give" something humanity and for its future. It has given whatever I have today, so this is my little way of "doing" my bit.

I don't know what other grids are like, however the objective of this grid is in line with my life philosphy - so Wellcome.

What else you get here:
1. a decent community
2. brilliant tech support
3. a vision of how this grid is going to evolve
4. a bit of fun to keep boring cycles from boring you

That is a summary of my 3 months of crunching experience.

I thought that too... but my thoughts are also around the fact that we still don't have any new data to crunch for cancer at the moment (been promised since the last outage, but no delivery) and also that HPF will indirectly help to fight cancer by working in the same way... It's already helped to find some vaccines in Africa apparently?

Also, as I have quite a few devices running UD, I decided to split my efforts. I can still make a good contribution at Grid, but have signed some devices over here too.

Let me know what you think. Everyone's over here and the party is only just starting!!

Hi Matt,
Nice to see a lot of people here from UD. The situation over there was getting pretty grim with all the outages and lost data. The forums were definitely getting unfriendly as well.
I was running cancer only at UD for two reasons. First, I thought it to be the most important and had the most immediate relevance to humanity and, secondly, Rosetta as run by UD was cumbersome and had many problems. I wanted to run it but didn't want to stress my pcs with 50 hour+ work units, especially my laptops. The concept of Rosetta goes far beyond curing just cancer. It is much broader in scope and can ultimately mean the end of all disease. In this light, the project is at least as worthy of our efforts as ligandfit.
Anyway, I moved eight of my machines over here so far and the two laptops will be coming online shortly.
The work goes on, just under a different flag.
