Re: Agent for another platforms - Windows NT, Linux

That one-liner reminds me of a story about the author of a book that went on vacation as soon as the book was sent to the publisher. Two weeks after publication, he sent a note to the publisher. The entire content of the note was "?". The response from the publisher "!".

The Linux agent is in the final stages. It should be available in just a few months. I do not know about running the existing agent on NT 4.0 Server. Someone who knows that answer should be along shortly. Regards.

The forward thinking here is most encouraging smile

edit: A linux client would significantly reduce the build costs of any new crunching rigs.....and with the lower o/s running overheads would probably be more efficient too.

Your team mate mousie inquired about that about a week ago and one of the WCG techs responded through Lewis Carroll as follows:
I saw your post about people experimenting with running the agent under Wine. We did some experiments with that but found that we had to copy in various microsoft files to make it work. And, it did not show the status screen nor screensaver image. Given that there are licensing problems using the microsoft files and given that it is easy to create an agent that misbehaves using this approach, we are not inclined to encourage this.

yep...also, if one were to use WINE and linux, there seems to be something that prevents the download of workunits, or at least was the case during my playing with it. i've just set it to folding for now.
