Hi,
----------------------------------------I'm a but green when it comes to understanding fully the inner workings of BOINC but, due to recent overheating issues, I decided to no longer accept GPU work, only CPU work, yet I see that I now have 1 Help Conquer Cancer work unit that appears to be overlooked and never starts. In the description it shows "Help Conquer Cancer nvidia_hcc1". My question is, was that a server error that allowed it to download against my settings, or will it in fact run eventually anyway using the CPU only? Thanks. ![]() [Edit 4 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 16, 2013 6:20:42 PM] |

There can be many reasons why the boinic manager download that work unit. A good rule to follow is to abort that work unit because it is only designed to be processed by a GPU.
If it continues to happen make sure your setting on WCG and boinc manager on your computer are the same. |

I've had on the rare occasion an hcc job for CPU with the wrong descriptor, really was a CPU task. Whilst, if you've not altogether disabled GPU processing it would get scheduled as soon as the GPU is free, but some older BOINC (not boinic) versions do have a buggy scheduler i.e. would not wait on it to hang around and just abort the task.

This is a brand new version of BOINC as I had uninstalled everything a few weeks ago, then relented and decided I should at least try with CPU-only stuff which of course curtailed my choice of projects quite a bit.
----------------------------------------My settings are the same at BOINC and the websites so it must have been downloaded in error. I'll abort it. Should I deselect Help Conquer Cancer in my website settings or does it still have non-GPU work? Thanks for the help. Edit: Ignore that last question, I see that it does, so I will leave it as a choice for downloads. [Edit 4 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 15, 2013 3:46:40 PM] |
