Setting up boinc

I'm setting up boinc on a new computer to run wcg tasks and its not retrieving tasks. It just says connecting to localhost in the bottom right hand corner.

When I click "attach to project" it doesn't do anything.

Could I get some help setting this up? The FAQ says that it'll ask me to log in the first time I start it up but it never did that.

Re: Setting up boinc

Hi,

There's these questions Sherlock asks Watson, elementary: Is boinc.exe running [look in Task Manager, started with Ctrl+Shft+Esc keys, then show all processes [assuming you're on Windows 7 or 8] and what exact BOINC version did you fetch for installation? You need v7 for W8 for successful installation.

Re: Setting up boinc

I have the same problem after installing boinc 7.0.64.
In addition, on the log (that, now, is almost hidden), I read:

07-06-2013 14.50.59 | World Community Grid | Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer
07-06-2013 14.51.11 | | Re-reading cc_config.xml
07-06-2013 14.51.11 | | No config file found - using defaults

and, then,
07-06-2013 14.52.58 | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
07-06-2013 14.52.58 | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU

But it doesn't receive anything.

My client runs on a Win XP SP3 laptop since the beginning of my contribution, and the last time I editet cc_config.xml is on 20-11-2009; it's in te same directory since that date

Re: Setting up boinc

Can't see this as the same problem, but alas. Rather than giving your select snippets of log, please post the whole from start to where it reports back on failing work request, after the last log line you posted.

Are you sure that the new installation is looking at your old data directory, since you say the cc_config.xml file exists, yet the log says there's no config. The path is printed at start of the 'event' log, and yes it was made less accessible. The 'Notices' tab is supposed to print the important, user intervention requiring messages.

Separately, as for the 'Failure when receiving data from the peer', here's a help article: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewSe...ing+data+from+the+peer%22

If there is no proxy, you need to confirm that in the Tools > Options screen.
