If I make the move I plan to buy the Motorola SB6141 modem which has a top tier 343/141 throughput.

Great modem. Make sure to get a white one. I have a friend who bought a black one and found out after it died that it was a OEM version without a full warranty.

The only concern is Comcast in my prior experience has been unreliable in my area.

I had reliability issues with Comcast at one point too. It turned out to be bad wiring in my house. I ran new RG6 coax cable from the main splitter to my TVs/modem and the problems went away. It's been rock solid every since. It did take a few truck rolls to get it diagnosed though.

I get anywhere from 60 kB to 70 kB per second take somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes to upload 40 meg file. Just to let you know I'm in New Zealand in the South Island.

Now that I have enough new data, the average upload time on the (currently) 40mb file is now between 1:20-1:25, vs the 4 minute uploads before. The new rate is now ~510 Kbps, and the old rate was 175k.
