"Sanity Check" - New User

Its been a looooong time since I crunched cep2, so I am doing a quick sanity check.

Up and running with the app_config at present set for 3 WUs to get my feet wet again - will ramp it up more later (PC has the legs - its a 3960x/16Gb RAM and two SSDs).

At present it will only supply me with one WU. I am assuming that's because I will be treated by the software as a "new user" and need to crunch one completely before it gives me more ?

I don't want to wait under false assumption only to find out later I did something else that was dumb :) app_config is:

<app_config>
<app>
<name>cep2</name>
<max_concurrent>3</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>

PC has done a total restart with that one live, so it should be ok.

Re: "Sanity Check" - New User

Set it for three in the main profile, it responded immediately giving me another two, but one was set to wait state, and only two running.

The only other thing on the machine is 6 x DOS based WUs (non WCG), but the PC is set for 12 cores, so it should start up more. No GPU ones running at present (will be later).

In theory therefore, there should be no issue running 3 cep2 WUs ... I've checked the main config files, cant see anything ..... it will be "fingers and thumbs" start up issue as the hardware is fine.

Had a good look - cant spot the issue - any clues ?

Why ask for only 3 threads? Ask for more, then cut down to what satisfies you.

Re: "Sanity Check" - New User

Zydor,

Have you checked the setting for number of CPU's to make sure it is set to use 100% of CPU's?

If that's not it, you might post the first 30 or so lines from your event log so we can see how your system is set up.

Re: "Sanity Check" - New User

Here is the Event Log - gives a subtle clue ..... :)

No more tasks available :)

However its only using two out of the three downloaded, so something is amiss somewhere

Useage I am working to is:

2xGPU + 2 x CPU - for Collatz
6 x CPU (DOS Based) for Prime Grid sr5sieve
3 x CPU WCG
1 x CPU for me (!)

Re: "Sanity Check" - New User

Don't know which 'subtle hint' you see, but if the web profile is set to 3 and you have 3, then there is no work available anymore for CEP2 [albeit the message leaves you to reason that].

captainjack asked the right question you ignored... first 30 lines of log after a client startup. Those will tell us the client setup and what can run within the limitations. You have 3 but only 2 run.

Re: "Sanity Check" - New User

By some chance, are you reserving 2 CPU's for each GPU task?

Re: "Sanity Check" - New User

Found it .......

DuuuH moment :)

app_config was incorrectly set to max of 2

<app_config>
<app>
<name>cep2</name>
<max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent>
</app>
</app_config>

Now Set it to 3 ........ surprise, it runs 3 if set to 3 :)
