Good Morning All.
----------------------------------------No sun so far today (but it's only 7 am). On a slightly brighter note, the £ is up against the dollar so my pension is worth a bit more this morning.

Afternoon all!
----------------------------------------![]() Hope your daughter gets the result she wants from her A-Levels, Dave! I vaguely remember that time, over two decades ago now! Time flies... ![]() |

Dave - I hope that your daughter's results are either what she expected or better. We all wait with bated breath for the announcement (probably from the bar of The Nag's Head). Don't forget - 5 in a row and a bonus mark!

Thanks for your good wishes chaps. My daughter has consistently under-performed in exams for the last few years, and this time was no exception. So basically, disappointing results, and much discussing to be done. She could still find a university to go to (she wasn't planning to until autumn 2017 anyway), but it may be more cost effective to take an alternative route.
----------------------------------------Either way, I think I might need a contemplative pint later ![]()

Good morning everyone.
![]() Dave, these things can happen. My eldest seemed to have given up whilst in 6th form college. He went to work for about 3 years and enrolling at another college where he found that he could do what wanted. Upshot he succeeded in necessary A levels, went to Uni and got a 2.1. The degree show he put on (with others from the same course) was challenging to say the least. He is now in the job he liked and is due to for further promotion. ![]() |

Good Morning All.
----------------------------------------I fell for you both Dave and domonijo, my sons went through the same process about 16 years ago with poor old dad tearing his hair out and wondering which one would end up as a dustman first (sorry - not PC I should have said Domestic Waste Disposal Engineer ![]() From my many years of experience, university is not the right solution for everybody but it is certainly harder to rise in the ranks of a big company without a degree as there is so much bias towards academia over practical ability. Most companies now run training programs for new graduates which can last up to 5 years. Cynically the 'training' is to ensure that the graduate becomes a company 'line toeing' clone and is generally unemployable elsewhere. I'm so glad I am out of this rat race!

Thanks guys. My daughter's leanings are towards biology/ecology/conservation/zoo keeping - which don't pay well. Personally, speaking from a position of comfortable well-off, middle-class boredom, I'd love a job repairing footpaths in the Lake District, or captively breeding voles and releasing them in Yorkshire (see BBC website for details). Not good for paying a mortgage though. The important thing is that she's a nice person who is prepared to work hard (at anything, no matter how boring), and I'm confident she'll do fine in the end.
----------------------------------------BTW, I clocked up 30 years for the team the other day, and crept into the UK top 200 for everything. Well done me ![]()

Well done DC, I like your ranking for runtime (4,444).
