Morning all.
----------------------------------------I see a Vic20 reading the thread, welcome to the thread by the way and there's always room in the team for a new guy ![]() Takes me back a fair few years but I was of arch-rival computer, the ZX Spectrum! Never used a Vic20 or the C64 but did get an Amiga from Commodore a few years later. Wonder how many months it would take one of those old machine to crunch even the smallest unit here, assuming that it was possible of course with those processors and small memory capacity. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by genhos at Jan 3, 2015 10:36:17 AM] |

Vic20 hails from the Emerald Isle.
----------------------------------------The appearance of KrisUK in yesterday's update was a phantom gremlin. The name appeared in error rather ahn a name lacking data. |

Takes me back a fair few years but I was of arch-rival computer, the ZX Spectrum! Never used a Vic20 or the C64 but did get an Amiga from Commodore a few years later. Wonder how many months it would take one of those old machine to crunch even the smallest unit here, assuming that it was possible of course with those processors and small memory capacity. ![]() My first computer was a VIC20, loved programming it, moved to an Apple ][ E and really liked programming on it. Worked on Big Iron for a decade or so afterwards. Tried programming a PC and hated it immensely. Got me an Acorn Archimedes and was in programming heaven again, so easy to create good wimp programs with it. Still hate programming in windows/dos, thank Linus for Linux/GNU, and for FreeBSD, my favourite. A single core of my current PC is 486400 times more powerful than the VIC20, so if a unit takes an hour, the Vic20 will take 1216000 days, I think. Just woke up so my thinking may be out! ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Darkmatter.NI at Jan 3, 2015 11:14:29 AM] |

Just had a quick gander around and found these approx clock speeds for those old computers. How things have changed since those days.
----------------------------------------ZX81 3.25mhz ZX Spectrum 3.5mhz Vic20 1mhz C64 1mhz Amiga 500 7mhz Amiga 1200 14mhz I did a bit of BASIC programming on the ZX81 & Spectrum, mainly from the magazines of the day which had listings for you to type in and then trying to modify them but playing games was most of my time to be honest! |
