Good afternoon, team! smile

I'm assuming you're not doing much rendering at the moment, crooks_uk, given yesterday's scoring (run-time especially)...

Nice Sig Labinopper! I don't know what phone you're rocking but you can also install BOINC on your Android device for some stealth crunching.

CEP2 problem

After nearly a week of CEP2 WUs erroring out there's been an acknowledgement that there is a problem:

seippel Sep 30, 2013 7:57:27 PM
We are aware of the increase in work units failing for CEP2 and are working with the Harvard team to resolve the issue. The problem is that some work units cause a fatal error in the Q-Chem code. Ideally these work units work units would be identified ahead of time, but if that proves impossible we will make sure this is handled on the validation side. Until a more permanent solution can be found, work units that experience this problem are manually being given credit.

I have a 4 core phone and a 2 core Kindle, the trouble is, I have lost all of my chargers somehow?? so I can only charge them at work haha need more chargers then my kindle will be crunching 24/7 and my phone for 12ish hours a day (although it takes about 12 hours per VINA task on both my Kindle and phone haha)

when I get my own place I will be ROCKING this crunching ;) got two 4 core laptops an old 2 core desktop, my 8core gaming rig, 4core phone and 2core kindle.. thats a total of... 24 cores =D plus my GPU in my desktop and both laptops which are currently useless for WCG sad It's kinda weird, but I keep thinking I wonder whether I can bulkbuy like 1,000 computers to just masscrunch the crap out of this haha

In Other News

The last Emerald badge available to me - CEP2 - is now at the whim of the P/V gaoler.

My first Sapphire - FAAH - could appear by end November but hopefully badges for the new Cancer project will be available before then. wink

Also around end November my Globe Sig should be turning Ruby smile

I don't know about 1,000 computers, but way before I even joined WCG (back in my SETI@Home days), I pondered building myself a cheap little Beowulf cluster...

Basically, get a cheap system built but don't put it in a case. Instead, measure out the fitment-holes on the motherboard, and build/buy a frame and place the motherboard on it with a decent cooling system. Then, as you get a bit more money, extend the frame upwards/sideways and place a second motherboard on top (or next to it) with just enough space to get decent air-flow between the motherboards. Keep going, as you buy more systems.

Build it properly, and you only need a USB key to power each of the "slave" systems and a single hard-drive to power the "master" server, a fair bit of network-cable, and a fast-ethernet switch. The master server will be the more expensive part, the slave-systems should be a bit cheaper.

Here's an example: (pic)
