Re: Message from Scribe/Alan's sister

John, on behalf of all of us at MOT, our condolences to you, the UK team and especially Alan's family. We all have yet another reason to crunch on.

Many thanks for your thoughts keithhenry, I think it shows that Alan was a revered member of the WCG community.

Re: Machine name change.

Two banana forests in Sumtri. wink

One of the lesser known holiday locations. Must admit I didn't recognise Sumtri, her ladyship did though. Think I need to stock up on some dried frog pills!

Wonder what will happen now that Sir Terry is no longer with us?

Wogan confused thinking

Noooooo tongue
Sir Terry Pratchett and his fabulous Discworld series of books. Just so inventive. My eye was caught many years ago by the cover of The Colour of Magic (those colourful slightly cartoony are brilliant and fit the story much better than the new "adult" covers), between that cover and the write up I thought I'd give it a go. What a good decision that was.

Re: Machine name change.

I am an avid and voracious reader across many genres (except horror) but could never get into Pratchett. Perhaps I'll try again.

Don't do horror either. I enjoy reading but need to be in the right frame of mind for it.
As for the Discworld books, I found a couple of them to be OK but not as appealing as others. Colour of Magic is a good start to the series. Really enjoyed Mort and Feet of Clay, which was more like detective story but with a good dose of Discworld humour/oddness. Like you JonnieB, I also know of other people who couldn't get into Pratchett. This is where a good second hand book shop comes in handy, can pick up a cheap copy to give a try.

Re: Machine name change.

The way I have tackled the Discworld has been to separate them into themes e.g. the City watch (Guards Guards, Feet of Clay through to Snuff) the Witches (Wyrde Sisters, Lords and Ladies to Masquerade) and some stand alone books (Small Gods, Truth, Unseen Academicals, a sidelong glance of the game of Foot the Ball. smile
