BOINC uses only one of two cores

Hello,
I participate in the renewable energy projetct and I have two cores / processors,

Unfortunately, my computer downloads only one workunit, not two (one for each core) as it should.

Troublshouting instructions did not answer my question (or I did not find the answer)
so I ask for help in this forum.

Thank you very much in advance.

Re: BOINC uses only one of two cores

Hello Martin.Schnellinger,
biggrin That's not much information to work on. I assume you have not changed the default 'use 100% cores' so my guess is that you are running into trouble with the minimum requirements for CEP2 at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=minimumreq which require 1 GB RAM and 2 GB disk per work unit. Incidentally, if you are running just 1 task you might consider running it at 100% speed.

Re: BOINC uses only one of two cores

As CEP2 uses a lot of resources (especially disk I/O) the default is one work unit per machine at a time. If you want to increase the allowance it can be done from:
My Grid -> device manager -> custom profile
Near the bottom is a section 'project specific settings' where the number of work units can be increased. Be careful!

Re: BOINC uses only one of two cores

Thank you Lawrence for taking the time to answer.
I checked the diskspace available: It is 99.00 GB.

So this will not be the reason,
What do you think?

The second core is the same as the first one, so it cannot be to slow or something, either.

To me, this is some kind of a miracle.

Sorry, I need further assistance.

Thank you.

Re: BOINC uses only one of two cores

HAve you changed your settings in the device profile so that CEP2 allows 2 WU's?

Re: BOINC uses only one of two cores

That's in the device profiles settings at the bottom of that list.

It's been some time since i last ran CEP2, but it worked okay with 8GB RAM and 8 threads of CEP2 simultaneously. Before that, this machine had only 4 GB RAM, this caused some resets to the last checkpoint running 8 CEPs, often hours of CPU time loss. 4 GB should be okay for 2 CEP2 threads. In any case, "keep application in memory while suspended" is most recommended for CEP2.
Alternatively, leave it as it is and select the "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project." option, then you'll get other jobs for your second thread.
