Re: constantly invalid results.

I guess we will find out :) I usually have it plugged in so after it is charged is the battery still warm? The left side seems slightly warm when the battery is charged.

I think my problems happen when it is being used. I don't close internet tabs or apps and it suspends for lack of memory. I only have 1GB of RAM. But it may also suspend when the battery temp reaches 55.

I could, of course, tell BOINC to suspend on battery but where's the fun in that?

A feature I would like is for BOINC to notice if a task keeps suspending and resuming and allow you to suspend for X minutes before retrying to resume the task again.

Edit: I installed CPU-Z and the battery temperature varies between 34-37 C. Plugged in or not.

Edit: I tried running 2 tasks and there is still 20% of RAM available. The battery temperature is still 34-37. Thank you Panther for pointing me to CPU-Z. Running a single task I have 5 days of runtime and 4055 points. I'll report how running two tasks work.

Re: constantly invalid results.

Preceding my last Valid

and ignoring the pendings

I have

Invalid
Invalid
Error
Error
Too Late
Error
Error
Error
Error
Error

I keep doing this on Android because every now and again that Valid is Valid and we are one Valid closer

But how many countless thousand Android devices out there are doing the same ?

After a months worth of crunching with the device I have 5924 BOINC points, most as 1/2 points on invalids, on a 4 core device Snapdragon 800

Never at any time has the device shown any misop's in any of it's running apps

It throttles to 1190MHz per core when running flat out (Peak possibility 2.27Ghz) which is fine.

Average Boinc credit showing as 229 /day

By comparison with practically every WU valid. 8 core windows box 4403/day

(n.b. points above * 7 for WCG point comparison)

I might try another ARM project and see if I have any more success

Re: constantly invalid results.

@Dave,

Have you tried Native BOINC?

What are your current setting that fail?

Running two tasks seems to be working for me. My results show no errors or invalids. I now have 6.25 days of runtime for 5150 points. I did increase max memory usage to 90%.

Edit: In BOINC points I have 735, averaging 117/day.

Re: constantly invalid results.

Runtime: 0:002:07:51:50
Points: 1,814
Valid workunits: 4
Error: 1
Pending: 18

Yesterday the first error with the new quad core smartphone, ...
[15:11:51] ERROR: VINA exited with rc = 1.
... it should have happened on battery running. Difficult to evaluate statistics if the old data in the result status doesn´t go back far enough to get all data in a conjoint view. Will have to wait for finished validating process.

Edit:
Invalid: 2 sad

Mixed crunching over different projects (yoyo, Einstein) ... continue or stop ? Perhaps priority switching between them troubles the calculation process or RAM allocation ? Have to monitor this.

Next Edit, from device statistic and result status:

Runtime: 0:006:16:15:21
Points: 4,193
Results returned: 11
Valid workunits: 4
Error: 1
Invalid: 3 sad
Pending: 9

Re: constantly invalid results.

I have 2 invalids when running 2 tasks at a time. So I am going back to 1 task at a time and my other original settings (see above).

Re: constantly invalid results.

I have a Samsung SIII (android), and also notice the problem, namely getting nothing but errors. After reading the boards here, I changed the settings from using the 4 cores to 1 core.

Since the change, I get no more errors, but the first and second results in are marked "invalid". I'll keep an eye on it for the next week-or-so.

If finally success rate seems to be less than 75%, then I'll stop using boinc on this phone for the time being. In this case, it feels too much like Beta testing to me, and I have no interest in using other software like Native or whatever.

Although, whatever the result, I will keep an eye on the Android message boards also, to see if things get better or not.

Re: constantly invalid results.

enels I wandered over to Enigma@Home for a while to see if the problem lay with my Nexus 5

With all four cores running on the standard boinc with standard settings 34 Valids and only a couple of errors so far

I don't need to nurse it in any way and I am getting the equivalent of 9443 WCG points a day from my phone.

Decoding long forgotten German WWII messages isn't really why I crunch and neither are the points.

Just think of the contribution to Humanitarian Research that is being lost by the Android capability not being properly harnessed here at WCG instead.

There's a problem with F@H Vina that needs resolving. The code is faulty not our devices

I'd guess there's some trigger event that renders all actively running Android Vina work units invalid or at least makes it more likely. My results often show invalids occurring in clusters, then again a batch of valids. Maybe battery overheating/CPU underclocking or suspending/resuming.
I stick to running 4/4 cores on my SG4. Had no problems with Android applications on other platforms (Einstein, Albert, Asteroids).

Re: constantly invalid results.

Hi Dave,

I understand your frustration. I haven't had any more errors/invalids since switching back. I haven't had valids either. 6 tasks are pending. My Galaxy 3 with only 1 GB will probably struggle with any project. I can see why you would want to keep all of your cores running. I'm going to stick it out here and see what happens. Have you tried running 1 VINA task alongside 3 Enigma? I think SIMAP has Android tasks as well. I'll report back here when I get more tasks finished.

Re: constantly invalid results.

enels 3+1 was what I was doing.

The WCG has returned 2 WU of which 1 is invalid. The Enigma's alongside are completed and validated

The WCG has now taken over my phone from the Enigma's

I really want to see success over here. The WCG has been my crunching home since its very first day.

I'd also like to bring my GPU's back over here soon smile
