Nice and cheap ($70) quad core tablet at Wal-Mart!

Up until now I had yet to buy a tablet since I have a smartphone (Motorola Droid Bionic). But I found an inexpensive quad core tablet at Wal-Mart for only $69.99 + tax came to $74.90 with free shipping. I live in Nebraska and it shipped from Cedar Rapids, Iowa so I received it only 2 days via Fed Ex even with the free shipping.

Here is the link http://www.walmart.com/ip/Ematic-HD-Quad-Core...with-Google-Play/28858632

The tablet so far seems to crunch a little faster than my dual core phone, it's at 1.5ghz instead of the around 1ghz of my phone. It was really a "no brainer" to buy because of the price (I don't know how they're making a profit on it, the chip alone costs $20!) I participate in WCG of course, and can also use it to play games, watch shows, etc. on a bigger screen than a smartphone.

I did some research before buying and there is really not a better deal on a tablet out there. It even has some better features than tablets priced $99-$130 because it has the newest Android O/S (Jellybean 4.2). The only drawback (if you even care about this feature, I don't) is it only has a .3 megapixel front facing camera. But everything is else is good.

Just wanted to pass along this good deal in case anyone else is like me and didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a tablet. You can add 4 cores/work units to your crunching arsenal for only $75, can't beat that! biggrin

some work units take over 20 hours on my 3 Ghz desktop, if I get this 1.5 Ghz tablet is it going to take me twice as long?

Not exactly z000,

My smartphone has a dual core at 1GHZ and it runs tasks with runtimes between 7-8 hours. What is the CPU on your desktop?

BladeD,

Brandon Murray posted this a while ago so the price must have gone up.

Falconet, on my PC it's about a 3 Ghz CPU with hyperthreading. It can run 2 work units at a time. Most are only a few hours but occasionaly they last over 20 hours.

But those 20 hour tasks are MCM no?
FAHV is the only project available for android and the tasks that ran in my smartphone never went upwards of 9 hours (CPU time).

Yes, I'm using the tablet to crunch FA@H on WCG. The price has went up at Walmart by $10, still not a bad deal at $80 for a quad core.

One of the top-of-the-line tablets would be the new Kindle Fire HDX starting at $229 for the 7 inch. It has a 2.2 ghz quad core processor, 2GB ram, as well as a better display.
