Re: BOINC 7.2 Client Testing Discussion

Coincidences often are planned no exception here, looked into GIT and found these entries marked (World Community Grid), created after the 7.3.11 test release BUT before this test announcement:

WINBUILD: Remove InstallShield's permission setting mechanism, rely on the SetPermissions custom actions instead. (World Community Grid)

To be backported to 7.2?, but certainly not in 7.2.42 which I chanced to install, in 32 bit version over the previously mentioned 7.0.68 WCG build. Only did this since the client this morning had hung completely with 4 out of 8 new mcm 7.29 going out with a "ran out of memory". 4 New launched plus 4 others all reset to zero % progress. Just my lucky day.

(unknown error) - exit code -529697949 (0xe06d7363)
......
Reason: Out Of Memory (C++ Exception) (0xe06d7363) at address 0x779A2EEC.

Had been running mcm 7.28 for weeks without issue on 8 cores concurrent.

The 7.2.42 chose to install as service/allow all users, which was how 7.0.68 ran. This so the agent will start even when Windows would decide to boot in absence. Windows 8.1 has unstoppable boots after applying fixpacks!

Now the wait is if these reset tasks will finish correctly under this trial client.

Hi,

Have you installed Mavericks over Mountain Lion, or as a clean install?

Thanks smile

ETA: running 7.2.42 in my Win7 64b rig (i7-3770, 8 GB RAM) since it release w/o any problem. During that time I have updated GPU driver, restarted PC several times, run different projects on both GRP and CPU...

It's a clean installation (I think that series already came with Mavericks anyway)

Re: BOINC 7.2 Client Testing Discussion

Hello all,

Installed latest 7.2.42 on both Windows 7 and 8, both 64-bit and have not had any issues. I installed it over the previous version and both times did not face any issues. Just had to make sure that it did not install the screen saver. Hope this helps. Can provide detailed specs of both laptops if needed.

Thanks

Re: BOINC 7.2 Client Testing Discussion

I've updated all my clients (4x W7/64bit, 1xiMac Mavericks, 1x older MacPro (SnowLeopard)) to Version 7.2.42 last week without any problems.

Mac OSX-hint: to implement a cc_config file, do NOT create a new file, just copy another textfile from the boinc data folder and place your cc_config file content, because this could end in a client manager startup permission error!
That's often happened to me.....

Re: BOINC 7.2 Client Testing Discussion

Installing 7.2.42 on all my machines as a Service Install went very smoothly. I did have to specify Service Install even though all machines were already running BOINC that way.

On a Win7-64 machine previously running 7.0.64, the previously read Notices all appeared in 7.2.42 as unread, but that's a small issue.

On the same machine in Options / General, I think I had set Notice reminder interval to 1 hour, but in 7.2.42 it was reset to 6 hours.

Otherwise, all configuration options were picked up by 7.2.42.

There was a start-up oddity on all machines: there was no mention in the Event Log of an initial start-up delay on the very first run of 7.2.42. "Suspending computation - CPU benchmarks in progress" appeared; the task status then went to "Suspended - starting up" followed by "Running", but there was no mention of either in the Event Log. After a reboot, the log shows "Suspending computation - initial delay", but there is no subsequent "Restarting task ...", even though the tasks start running as expected. It's a minor issue, but it might confuse some people.
