System Maintence: Sunday, April 6th at 1:00 UTC 2 Apr 2014 Summary Routine server maintenance will be performed on Sunday, April 6. World Community Grid will be performing routine server maintenance this weekend starting Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 1:00 UTC. The window for this update is 10 hours, although we anticipate the actual outage time will be less. During this time, various parts of the website will be unavailable as we perform these updates. In addition, volunteer device may not be able to fetch work for a brief period of time during this outage. No action is required by the members as the BOINC/World Community Grid software application will automatically reconnect to our servers once the outage is over. You're going to start the maintenance in the middle of the normal end of day stats run that normally doesn't end until 01:45-02:00 UTC. The window for the maintenance runs until 11:00 UTC but you don't expect it to really take that long. The mid-day stats start at 12:00 UTC. How are you going to fit the end of day stats in? Delay them until the end of the maintenance? Skip them and let the mid-day update users and do a manual run of the team stats to update them for the day befoer? That was what was nice about the 3:00 UTC window start. The stats had time to finish and you had a short time to get to them before the work started. |

Hey keithhenry,
We will be updating all the servers on the backend. Which means we will be targeting the machines that have no impact on the members first. We will start with a few of the redundant systems to make sure that nothing goes wrong first. This will take easily 1-2 hours. The server that runs the stats will not be updated until after the stats are run. As well as the database servers, those are saved for last. In short, the end of day stats will still be run. However when I have to update the server that hosts the database for the website, this data will not be available. Thanks, -Uplinger |

In other words, there's a chance folks could get to the updated stats before the relevant servers go down (but no guarantees). |

Basically yes. I can not make any guarantees of course as things happen. But my guess will be that the website may only be down for like 30 minutes during that interval. With another 30 minutes where members will not be able to get work units. But again this could be longer or shorter, depends on how quickly the actual updates take.
