Can someone please help me to understand how I can (continue to) get an RSS feed of newly-posted forum entries? I thought I had one set up on the Beta Test Announcements forum, but last night's post didn't arrive. Now when I look at the new web site, I can't make head nor tail of how to set one up. (And I didn't think the forum software had changed, so never took a look until now.)
RSS seems only to be available for "World Community Grid News" which is set up in "Settings: Communication Preferences". There seems to be no mention of forum feeds. And I can't work out what is generated by a forum "watch"; there is no explanation and I can't find anything relevant in the help / FAQs. Is it an e-mail? If it is "non-digest" is it immediate? Can I have RSS instead? I can't find any switches! I did find references in the help to clicking on the RSS icon to get a feed from a particular page, but I think that's what it used to be like, not the way it is now. This all needs cleaning up, please! Perhaps I'm the only one who likes to use RSS? |

The inquisitive are not necessarily the explorers
![]() Digest is daily, non-digest is quasi immediate emailing. The only watch i have on the beta forums, has these arrive hours after the post. My tablet pings when a mail arrives, so I'd know, if in earshot. ![]() |

P.S. Seems the address switch is the suffix ?rss=1 . If the icon is not there, try adding that to see if it works.

Hi lavaflow, thanks for trying to help. But I'm not convinced.
The RSS icon at the bottom of the forum pages takes you to "World Community Grid News", as I said. What's that got to do with forum feeds? I tried adding a subscription to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/listthreads?forum=181&rss=1 to my reader and it said the URL was invalid (I presume it tried to read from it and failed). Any other suggestions as to URL syntax? There needs to be a decent explanation of all this and, preferably, a better UI for a dumb user to be able to set this up easily. |

You're absolutely right, the proliferated rss icon is as you said seemingly going everywhere to the news page feed. The ?rss=1 suffix is completely functionless too, so ahum, sorry for interjecting in the first place

I've just set the stopwatch on when the beta mail notice arrives on the test just started. Limited in scale, it's probably over before getting the message. Boinctasks is set to pull notice updates every 30 minutes.

I've just noticed that another beta has started and, once again, there's nothing in my RSS feed. However, there have been some changes since last time:
Looking at the beta test announcement in the forum (here) there is a hot RSS icon at the bottom which links to http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/rsssummary. From here I can select the RSS icon in the line for "Beta Test Announcements [Read Only]". However, this link (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...stPostDate&order=DESC) gives the error message: XML Parsing Error: junk after document element Location: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...stPostDate&order=DESC Line Number 35, Column 1:<script type="text/javascript"> ^ Checking my RSS reader I see similar messages in the error console. Any chance of this getting fixed? |

I can reproduce this issue as well, Please note that it may take me a bit to figure out what is going on with it. I have it on my task list of things to fix.
Thanks, -Uplinger |

Thanks, Keith, for acknowledging the problem. I'm sure you have more important things to do with the science applications at the moment, but it would be good to have this working again if and when you have the time to attend to it.
