Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 64 smilesmile

Being well aquainted with summers in Texas, I fully understand. I do seem to have way under-estimated your "aggressivenes" at restarting machines though. I had presumed that you shut down machines once the heat of summer starts and leave them down until that abates in September.

I am not consistent in that regard. Depends on how hot it actually is here and how hot my office is and some other unknown astrological phenomenon of which I am not aware. Right now, two machines are dark but the rest are cranking away. These outages kind of mess up your "streaks" stats. Have a great day everyone.

smile I'd never make it as "reader". It's a huge challenge trying to understand what's behind the numbers. The old "wet finger, hold up in air, go with what sticks" approach works as well as anything! wink What really messes up our streaks is outages like yesterday. When and if a machine is shut down or restarted doesn't. There's always variability to our stats but there's a fairly stable core to that. That's what's really in the streak numbers. Outages are unrelated outside events that skew those numbers.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 64 smilesmile

Speaking of understanding what's beehind the numbers, I was wondering why our stats for today weren't a good bit higher to actually reflect two days of work. Seems WCG's EOD stats run barfed and didn't pick up the second half of the day. They're being rerun and will be done in another hour or so. I'll check this out again in the morning and update our numbers accordingly.

I think my stats for yesterday actually did reflect two days of work --

Yes, the individual numbers are correct. After multiple runs of the stats, Uplinger got those correct but the team numbers are still wrong. I'm presuming a normal stats run tonight will bring the team numbers back in line and they will reflect two days of work. This all shows up the best in the graphs. Your individual ones will be twice as tall as normal but the team ones aren't.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 64 smilesmile

Uplinger was able to get Wednesday's team stats fixed this afternoon. I wasn't able to grab those numbers though before they updated again tonight. However, my stats cooker calculates the differentials so while our stat numbers won't match WCG for today only, they match overall. Basically, we'll match for yesterday and today combined. I did update the "All Members" post for the actual team numbers per WCG for today and yesterday and adjusted the streaks accordingly.

Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 64 smilesmile

Well, it looks like my ThinkPad may finally be biting the dust. It keeps giving me a blank screen followed by going into sleep mode. This morning it was in sleep mode again, so I don't know how much WCG work was done last night.

I am looking at getting (from Best Buy) an ASUS ROG 24G laptop. The one I want looks like it only comes with Windows 8 (not 8.1) so I may have to negotiate to have 8.1 installed. What else does it have besides 24G of RAM?
- 4th Gen Intel Core i7 processor
- 1 TB HDD
- dual 128G SSDs
- BluRay
- backlit keyboard
- Bluetooth (should work well with my hearing aids)
- HDMI output (I don't know how I might use this)
- NVIDIA graphics chip (is this good enuf?)

I had to search on the Best But WEB site to find out what ROG is but I found it means Republic of Gamers. (I do not intend to use it for games, but who knows?)

Any comments?

1) Best Buy is not. Buy from the manufacturer Dell, HP or Toshiba. Perhaps even ASUS.

2) Specs you have there sound fine; expect that the 24GB ram is excessive though.

3) You can use the HDMI to feed output to a TV.

4) I dislike windows 8 but work with it fairly frequently. Do not pay to get it upgraded to 8.1, it is a free download from Microsoft. Or better yet get Windows 7.
