Re: Are the CeP2 completion percentages accurate?

This science could use a lot more volunteer support, but we need the staggered start enforcing. Multiple starting same time is less than pretty. With that much time remaining 2.5 years, what is stopping developers from implementing this?

It's not that the BOINC devs(separate from the wonderful WCG staff) can't add the feature, it's just that there are a lot of things on their to do list that I guess have higher priority. They're just starting on a new version, so hopefully staggered start will be in that one

Agreed!... but it is so difficult to crunch CEP2 WUs without a dedicated machine and without the right specs on that machine (no faulting the techs or scientists, it's just the nature of the beast)

but we need the staggered start enforcing. Multiple starting same time is less than pretty.
Sorry for the newbie questions, but what is a staggered starting and a multiple starting (in terms of CEP2) ?

Thanks,

CJSL

Re: Are the CeP2 completion percentages accurate?

CJSL,

Basically when CEP2 workunits start, they have extremely high IO usage. This makes a machine appear sluggish during this operations. Now if you have an 8 core machine and all 8 started at one time. It really causes a machine to appear sluggish for a few minutes. But again, this feature is something that would need to be implemented into the BOINC client.

Thanks,

Re: Are the CeP2 completion percentages accurate?

Thanks Keith for the response (and very prompt also !). I now understand the concepts and how they relate to CEP2.
