Credit where credit is due

In order to not clutter the feedback thread where there is valuable information for the techs to troubleshoot and such, I'd like to start a discussion here.

We all understand the nature of Beta work. Things happen and computer cycles get wasted. Such is the nature of testing.

With this current run, it appears there will be massive amounts of cpu time racked up with possibly stuck work.

Please find a way to assure that the users are properly credited with the effort they spend on these units. We can handle wasting cpu time on testing; not getting recognition for our efforts would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Personally, I have not been credited for in excess of 4 days on just the Android Beta for issues that were not my fault simply because the script to grant time crunching was not run before the units were assimilated and wiped.

Should such an oversight happen on this new project Beta, it would be a community relations disaster.

We all love the meaningless badge hunt. It makes things fun. Beta work units are rare enough as is without doing the work and receiving no credit. Think of the kittens...

Re: Credit where credit is due

Hmmm,

a pity? Yep. A disaster? Not really for me.

I'd like to upgrade my Beta badge, but I'll not lose sleep over for example my server-aborted WU that I got (without credits).

wink

Re: Credit where credit is due

Let's be realistic. Beta = risk. All Beta's have a myriad of risks, including the risk of not receiving credit where credit is due. Sure, we'd all like to upgrade our Beta badges, but if you're losing sleep over lost credit, you should really re-evaluate participation in the Beta program.

That said, the tech's do what they can to ensure credit is given when due. Sometimes it takes time. Be patient. They are an awesome bunch!

A droll shrubbery if ever I have seen one. He gave it away in that last incomplete sentence.

Kittens? Could those kittens possibly be the kittens that lost their mittens and now shall have no pie? I rest my case.

Re: Credit where credit is due

It looks like ALL my beta tasks just received credit. Even the user aborted and server aborted. Yay !! biggrin

Re: Credit where credit is due

I can understand someone being unhappy at not getting credits, but as others point out the Beta world is a testing world and not a perfect one. Sometimes things go thermal-nuclear leaving no traces or credit behind (just a warm cpu). Some (myself included) are left wondering how the last couple beta runs have been completed and some of us ended up with a 'baseball' perfect game (no hits-from WUs, no (WUs) runs, no (WUs) errors) - even in my case when I'm generally running my laptop most of those nights when some beta action happened to pop up. I even took a shower every one of those days and no beta singles action. No beta love for this little cruncher....Such is life....... wink

Re: Credit where credit is due

It's good to see all the CPU Time spent on recent Beta units added to my total. The WCG Points total increase for the timed out units is terrible, though; perhaps Keith Uplinger's script on Monday will improve even that aspect.

I strongly resemble that statement.
