Hi everyone, new to the forums here although have been with WCG for quite a while. In a recent email update from WCG, I was excited to read about the support for Android. I have quite a few Android devices in the family here, and have installed the client on each of them.
----------------------------------------My problem is that most of my devices show "Nothing to do -- Waiting for tasks...", and the only time I've seen it actually crunch numbers is during the initial setup after the benchmark. It will crunch through 1 result, which I can see on my Results Status page as Pending although after that they all seem to show the Nothing to do -- Waiting for tasks message. Any ideas? Thanks! EDIT: some messages my devices show in the log World Community Grid Your current settings do not allow tasks from this project. To fix this, you can change Project Preferences on the project's web site another World Community Grid Not requesting tasks: don't need (blocked by project preferences) As far as I can tell, I'm set to participate in the Beta results etc. [Edit 2 times, last edit by ind at Nov 9, 2014 9:45:03 PM] |

Have you chosen FightAids? It is the only project that supports Android.

You bet, all check boxes are checked. Participating in all WCG projects.
----------------------------------------EDIT: just to add here, I removed all checks and clicked Save, then re-clicked all the checks and Saved again to be sure. Same messages on my android devices. Would it be possible that the ONLY box I should have checked is the FIGHT AIDS one? EDIT 2: maybe I need a different profile for Android rather than "Default" and only select the fight aids project? (see Edit 3) Edit 3: sorry for all the edits -- I created a new profile, selected only fight aids, and updated all android profiles on the website to the new profile. Same error message showing in the logs that "World Community Grid Your current settings do not allow tasks from this project. To fix this, you can change Project Preferences on the project's web site" [Edit 3 times, last edit by ind at Nov 7, 2014 6:41:37 PM] |

Hi ind,
----------------------------------------When you click on BOINC app on your Android device, then Preferences, what do you see there? I Unchecked "Pause computation when screen is on" and "Transfer tasks on WiFi only", others are checked. Receiving new tasks w/o problems ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Thanks branjo for confirming your settings. I can tell you I've tried to fiddle with everything that I'm aware of including what you've suggested.
----------------------------------------The strange thing is, if I uninstall the app and then reinstall... I can sometimes get it to run through 1 result immediately after it does the benchmark test. After that, it begins to leave me with the "Nothing to do -- Waiting for tasks..." message. Really at a loss here. Good to read though that yours is working, there is light at the end of the tunnel :) EDIT: Just to confirm, the error message I receive in the Event Log is the following: "World Community Grid Your current settings do not allow tasks from this project. To fix this, you can change Project Preferences on the project's web site." This message shows in the Event Log of multiple android devices. The most recent one I checked was crunching results just before I went to bed, although now it displays the above message. [Edit 1 times, last edit by ind at Nov 7, 2014 8:33:40 PM] |

OK. Could you, please, restart your Android device and C&P entire Event log here? Maybe somebody will see the problematic part in your settings from it.
----------------------------------------Cheers and ![]() ETA: have you tried to reset the project or/and to detach/re-attach it? ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by branjo at Nov 7, 2014 9:56:34 PM] |

Wow - your idea to remove/add the project back from within the Android BOINC app worked. (the reset didn't work, but removing/adding did!)
Anyways, if it helps pin-point the issue, here's the copy and paste before I did the remove/add of the project. I'll do the same steps to my other Android devices. The log has some strange reading, bottom up, where boinc data would only install to internal memory for security reasons the word is, yet there's indication of there being a swap file of 0.7gb and 9.74gb disk free. Got only 2.7gb, way more than ever needed, the rest of the 32gb flash is configured external, no option to change that setting on the tab, kitkat 4.4.4. Anyway, don't fix what's not broken.
As for "Transfer tasks on WiFi only", the recommendation is actually to have this ticked as else the agent would start transferring data across your 3g/4g data-plan. Mine is thus set to only transfer results and fetch new tasks while on wlan or wifi hotspot. |

Hey branjo and lavaflow -- unfortunate update here.
----------------------------------------Issue is not resolved. Both BOINC apps on the android devices began to behave the same way as before shortly after resolving their first task. That is, they do not run any tasks. I've tried the remove/add again, and even installed BOINC to yet another (8th?) android device and I get the same issue. It appears to download a number of tasks, but then doesn't work on anything. The message in the logs is the same: World Community Grid|Your current settings do not allow tasks from this project. To fix this, you can change Project Preferences on the project's web site. The only thing I haven't tried yet is to create an entirely new WCG account. Would there be a possibility that my account (which is a few years old) is too old or somehow corrupt? I'd like to contribute, but just can't.
