Well just upgraded my Dell PC from an AMD64 x2 4600 2.4 Ghz w/1 Mb L2 cache to a screamin fast old AMD64 X2 6000 Windsor chip 3Ghz w/ 2Mb's L2 cache wondering besides the obvious Mhz boost 2.4 - 3.0 Ghz if the extra L2 cache will increase my crunching performance at all??. Well time will tell by keeping an eye on my stats over the next few weeks. My Average run time per calender day is now 0:004:21:41:06 combined total with my 5 devices running.

----------------------------------------Ouch, 125w TDP If you use Linux 64-bit (I believe your CPU is 64-bit) then the Fightaids@home and Outsmart Ebola projects will have a very significant boost of some 50-60% (if I recall correctly) when compared to W7 64-bit. My AMD A8-6500 3.5 GHZ finishes the AIDS tasks in less than 40 minutes, in W7 64-bit it was more 30-40 minutes. Hehe yep it's a screamin hot old 90nm chip but picked it up at a recycling store for 5 bucks XD!! the oversized Dell cooling fan keeps it running cool even at 80%. However you are right it's not a very effeicient use of power for only 2 threads compared to my 32nm 4.2 Ghz 8core chip FX-8350 running at 125W tdp but you know the old saying beggars can't be choosers considering I got the PC for free. I have been thinking about doing an Ubuntu install perhaps some time in the future.

Just so you see, my 1.9 GHZ A8-4500m took at most 1 hour and 10 minutes to finish a task under Linux 64 bit. My A8-6500 3.5 GHZ takes around 1 hour and 20 minutes per task under W7 64-bit. The A8-4500m is faster despite the obvious 1.6 GHZ difference between the two CPU's. Not to mention that the A8-4500M uses a mere 40 watts compared to some 95 watts of the desktop. Well thanks for all the advice Falcon you convinced me to run my Dell on linux I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and just finished getting BOINC up and running. This was a little painful because I first used my old 12.04 ver. disk which I downloaded a long time ago thinking I could save some time lol which is no longer supported and could not get BOINC installed kept getting message broken incomplete files ect. so then I did a complete re-install of the new and latest 14.04 and everything is working fine now. Should get more production out of this old dual core rig now. Perhaps I got into running BOINC a little too quick on this OS still some work tasks to finish up on my Vista OS lol will have to boot back into Vista and finish those soon!!

Well for MCM project Ubuntu 14.04 x64 BOINC took 11.33 hrs to complete 48,858Gflop task and on my Vista x64 RamDrive it took 10.11 hrs for the same size task 48,858 Gflops

Only FAHV and OET are AD VINA based and run much faster on Linux. May CEP2 does, but it's hard to put your finger on the difference due the variability from task to task. MCM has no notable difference, nor does UGM, not that anyone has reported on.

Yes that is true Sekerob the first task my Ubuntu BOINC crunched on was a quick little FAHV approx. 7800 Gflops only took .50/hr compared to .45 on my Vista BIONC!! so yes it does fly through those task much better than Vista hehe
