Re: 4 letter word game - discussion

Hello all,

This is a friendly reminder to please only use words that are not profane in these threads.

Thank you,
ErikaT
And this is a friendly account from the viewpoint of a Dane.

English is my second language, ErikaT, and in general to me a word in a word game is a word.
I know one that I have avoided so far, though, even as it is probably not profane at all.

If you think of 'penis' which I have used - with the comment of 'I better get it over with' because my co-gamers seemed to have bumped into a jolly period of puberty - it is an anatomic reality, not a profanity, in my world.
If you think of '****' used by another gamer with English as a second language, it's just a word describing a certain idea of the female sex to me. Sometimes it can be difficult to gauge the depth of one single word, and offense may be something you chose to take or not.

American and Danish ideas of profanity may differ a lot.
Who has been offended by any word used here and why?

I am aware that depiction of the female breast is no longer comme il faut in the USA.
But where would I - as a Dane - be able to familiarize myself with current American limits for verbal profanity?
Is there a list of don'ts somewhere?
I have in a few cases with some regret chosen selfcensorship in the case of some words which I have knowledge of would be politically incorrect but which still are words.

little mermaid,

From the Communication Guidelines:
Do not post any content that is inaccurate, harmful, threatening, obscene, pornographic, defamatory, discriminatory, racist, violent, offensive, harassing, or otherwise objectionable.
It is at the discretion of the World Community Grid team to determine if a word falls under any of the categories above, as there isn't a defined list of words in place. If you are concerned if an English word could possibly be considered profane, please look it up first. World Community Grid is promoted as a family-friendly activity, and we ask that the language used in the forums is as well.

Thank you for your support,
ErikaT

Re: 4 letter word game - discussion

Aurum420, it was a not-so-nice word about some women's occupation and such posted by German [SG] Thomas Kleinhenn in what I interpreted as probably a phase of puberty playfulness. Something that is best cured if not paid too much attention to in my #Metoo experience.
The word has - as far as a search from me turns up - disappeared.
Doesn't exist any more in the name of protecting family values.

So much for flag Freedom of Speech flag
Perhance the Founding Fathers didn't get it quite right .....
- but rules exist to be obeyed or ....
The word 'penis' however seems to be OK dancing
