Jeff, haven't heard from you in a while. I assume the basement work is all done and things are back to normal?

Well i an happy to hear all is pretty much well!! My friends in Kingsland are high and dry as well--i may fly down there in September for a visit--RT its been so long since posting i almost forgot Gerald, it's good to see you posting. I at least know you're still kicking ![]() ![]() RT, glad to hear that all you have is some outside clean up to do. The pictures I saw out of Houston looked just like when Rita went through. With the wife's family out in the Piney Woods, I tend to keep an eye on the weather out there and those were some nasty looking radars. Talking about shipping the water out to CA, goes to show just how things have changed - if Mulholland was still around, he'd be wanting to build a aquaduct from Texas and he'd make it happen too! With a country as big as this, I would think pipelines for water should be built to move excess water in one area to other areas in need of it. There is a lot of water being wasted by not moving it around after excess rain or hurricanes in other areas result in flooding for some time. I understand the sentiment Dave. Shame is we've gotten too smart for our own good in some ways. With water from flooding, you can be dealing with various types of contamination - raw sewage from flooded treatment plants, fecal matter and chemical runoff from agricultural areas, all kinds of stuff from industrial areas - and the whole issue of "water rights". The kicker would be financing any projects like this. With something like this coming from the federal level, I hate to think of the political aspects. Folks are going to be understandibly defensive too. Look at how things go there in CA when water allocations have to get cut. You're dealing with folks' livelihoods in many cases. Sigh. Guess we'll just have to keep waiting for the Star Trek transporters with their biofilters. |

Guess we'll just have to keep waiting for the Star Trek transporters with their biofilters. We have technology that boggles the mind when you think back to what we had as kids. My grandad had a favorite movie "Sargent York". He would drive almost 200 miles to see that movie when he found it it was showing and he could get away from the farm. Now, he would just have a DVD or a memory stick he could play it from on a movie screen in his own home or steam it to his smartphone (I remember when he got the "Party Line" telephone (Their ring was three longs and a short)). What we don't have is a technology to handle movement of trillions of gallons of water (even if they were potable) across the Rocky mountains in any realistic way. Perhaps some day when energy is essentially free, something like that might be possible. I cannot imagine what a government project like that would look like or cost and how badly they would *&^$% it up. They can't manage anything at all let alone at a reasonable cost. I found the comment about the politics that would go around it interesting. With something that large, how many people would they under-employ, how many billionaires would be made off the graft, how could they make it a race issue so Sharpton and whatshisface could get involved? I cannot imagine how big and expensive of a mess that would make and still not solve the problem. ![]() Anyway. We are drying out a bit here now. The water is still seeping out of the hills and it makes getting around the land pretty sloppy if you get off the pavement. The rivers are still full but pretty much back in their banks. Apart from the damaged trees and some other cleanup we survived it well, unlike so many others. The weather pattern seems to have changed now so hopefully our friends in the drought areas will get some relief and we can get back to normal. Gerald, It would be good to see you again if you do get back in this neck of the woods. Thank you all for what you do here at WCG. Especially Keith for all he does. Have a great Sunday ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 2 times, last edit by RT at Jun 7, 2015 2:26:48 PM] |
