Think I'll turn everything but my Work cruncher off until this has been sorted out. Wasting power helps no one. Anyone from WCG/CEP have anything to say about the outages? The weekend is fast approaching and I'm still leaning towards leaving my crunching boxes off. "Sadly this project is turning into nonscience......" We did encounter times when there were higher number of reliable hosts needed. These had to sometimes be manually kicked, which is why members were seeing times with no work. I haven't seen the issue over the weekend from my reports. It was due to a few results that were not converging from what we could tell. They will be sent to the researchers for them to further investigate.

This is a shock to the system if 'a few' non-converging are able to derail the CEP2 supply train. There's several choices volunteer crunchers can make to ensure continuity on there hosts... one is to increase the profile setting 1-16, but as one does that, a higher buffer setting is needed to keep the other work coming. Combined with the preposterous average runtime projections... they arrive with 28 hours and more TTC, on one host they're showing with 35 hours TTC on them and complete in 4 to 8 [project 7 day average 6], this is a no win situation. Speculation button pushed: The very high feeder/shared memory turnover is drowning out CEP2 to get enough slots. 25K on last Friday 1.974 million validations feels like CEP2 has a hard time to get any foot sideways in. |

It is at it again; I just got a group of non-CEP2 work a few minutes ago. I should be a reliable host, but don't see any short fuses on two machines, if that is the proper indication; they arrive with a 10-day deadline. Maybe there is something wrong with that determination?

My servers should be reliable too as they are dedicated to cep2 a couple of weeks now.
----------------------------------------Normally I run these servers with a low buffer (0.75 + 0.25), but this is not sufficient for the shortage of wu. Right now it is frustrating crunching cep2. I have the hardware available that is capable to do the job but I don't like to have the situation that the servers run dry. I'm not paying/renting these servers for staying around with nothing to do. I will observe cep2 for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully it's getting stable again. Ok. Servers are running dry faster than I thought. :(

So I changed it to: sudo apt-get install gcc-4.7-multilib Thank you for posting this, it is exactly what I was looking for and it worked perfectly. |
