I have one computer that will no longer download tasks for wcgrid cep. Tried updating the boinc client to the current version (was 5.x, is now 7.6.9) but it did not help. It didn't even import the old data files, had to add wcgrid and the other projects anew.
----------------------------------------This is happening on all wcgrid cep tasks. Antivirus (Avast) has not interfered according to its logs. Windows version is XP, 32bit. Straight internet connection, no proxy. What is going on here? Just a thought, but check your disk space.

Complaints at the BOINC dev management, going from 5.n to 7.6.9 gives entirely different file organizing structures as do the control files internally change quite a bit, so loosing the old data directory set is not unexpected. For instance the data/project/slots is no longer in subs to the C:\Programs Files\BOINC directory, either moved to user folders or C:\ProgramData\BOINC [on Vista and above], but then, who actually still tests for XP... it's not supported by MS any-longer [unless you fork over lots of dosh]

Errata: IIRC, there was some migration effort when going from 5 to 6.
It's not unlikely the old data dir is still at C:\Program Files\BOINC\ where it never should have been for security reasons. Check and delete could recover a few GB. |

Update: The problem seems to have rectified itself. After a further few automated tries, the exe suddenly just downloaded OK and the task started - completely without manual intervention.
----------------------------------------It doesn't seem to have been disk space, the machine has ~6GB free on the system volume. Might try deinstalling 7.6.9 once the current CEP task has completed and updating back via 6.x so as to be able to resume the older running tasks. ![]() |

Be aware, 5.n and 6.n have certificate problems [cause of your download issues], hence why the recommendation is to upgrade to 7.2.47.
----------------------------------------When manually cleaning, be careful that before the \program files\BOINC directory was a mix of client programs and project folders etc. When deleting, only remove the sub-folders projects, notices, slots [where the data of jobs in progress is]. The old WCG wiki gives tells where the new *default* data folders will be from 6.2.28 http://wcg.wikia.com/wiki/Data_directory The indication is the data for XP/W2000 would now be in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Sep 3, 2015 7:53:15 AM] |

Ok. I did find the new configuration files in the folder you mentioned, and the old files are still all there in \program files\boinc.
----------------------------------------However, more seriously, it looks like this machine still has problems. It has completed 2 CEP tasks now up to 100% in the correct time expected, but the tasks seemingly fail with exit code 0xC3. Any idea what exit code 0xC3 is? 195 is a regular show. If listed with Error on the Result Status page, there's little that can be done, but booting and making sure BOINC has enough space to work. And this being XP, hopes on full compatibility are not set high on my part [experiences differ]. XP has it's addressable memory space limitations to name one.
Compare C:\program files\BOINC with the new data_dir folder. Remove any duplicate names from the former/old that are also in the new such as client_state.xml. The duplicates *may* cause startup conflicts. Comparing by 'last modified' timestamp will tell which *old* can go. Ideally, uninstall BOINC, clean out any traces, maybe even the registry, than boot and install fresh. |

Deinstalled 7.6.9 and cleared \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC.
----------------------------------------Followed by installing 6.6.38. It found the old client and the old jobs, created \Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\BOINC and moved all the data files from \Program Files\Boinc there. So far so good. It resumed all the old jobs but now one of the original problems is back. There is a MCM job sitting at 100% trying to upload, Job name MCM1_0015451_0305_1, upload is failing with a SSL error: Event Log: ------------ 07/09/2015 21:17:26 World Community Grid Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks. 07/09/2015 21:17:26 World Community Grid Reporting 1 completed tasks, requesting new tasks 07/09/2015 21:17:27 Project communication failed: attempting access to reference site 07/09/2015 21:17:28 Internet access OK - project servers may be temporarily down. 07/09/2015 21:17:31 World Community Grid Scheduler request failed: SSL connect error Any ideas how to fix without uninstalling and deleting everything? ![]() |

Any insight in what the SSL connect error is?
----------------------------------------The system date and time is correct. This problem was not caused by client update and rollback. It is the issue I was trying to solve with the client update. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Gurra at Sep 25, 2015 1:01:04 PM] |
