Hello Erika, Hello vlado101,I really like the new slides. They flow well. As far as issues others have stated it better than what I can. My only concern is advertising WCG with android devices. Currently the OET project is in a bad shape on android devices. I would love to donate more, and I would think people would be more likely to just install an app on their phone instead of installing something on their desktops/laptops. Since OET is the only android capable project, and it has issues where tasks run indefinitely I would say more time has to be spent on making those projects available or finding a way to port it on android. Just a suggestion. Otherwise it looks great. Can you please use the Contact Us form to give us more information about the issues you are experiencing on your Android device? This might be related to an issue of work units looking like they're hung up, when in fact, they are not. Thank you, ErikaT Erika, Check out the posts on the OET forum for more information. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

If WCG is going to make a recruitment drive, then it has to mean what it tells prospective crunchers.
----------------------------------------World Community Grid enables anyone with a computer, smartphone or tablet to donate their unused computing power... and Your computer or mobile device could be powering scientific research on health, poverty and sustainability. The forums on OET and FAAH2 are full of postings about the WUs being too long and the deadlines being too short and there has been no replies by the techs or admins. Just alot of snooty replies from other users about crunching the wrong project, WCG doesn't make the apps, the researchers don't need to make apps that satisfy cruncher's needs.Android BOINC appears to be abandoned (at least that is what the forums state) and doesn't play well with WCG at all (there are lots of bug reports that go unacknowledged). So why try to recruit new volunteers telling them that they can install on their mobile device? If a person joins and takes any available project they will be sorely disappointed that WCG is failing keeping the promises made in the pitch. WCH is not doing a good job at ensuring new projects meet these promises made to users, such as install and forget. When one is donating their CPU time, one is not happy to learn that hours of work are being thrown away because of an unreasonably short deadline coupled with very long WUs. I have recruited new people in the past only to have them become angry at me later and quit. I still try to recruit new crunchers, but I give them a much more realistic pitch, but most don't take the bait. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

Time to reverse the rot. Culled from an article http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=10686 which invites to join a discussion on BOINC and volunteer computing:

Erika, just don't know why we have those badges, if we can't see list of contributors for those badges...so here's my suggestion for a sollution:
----------------------------------------- make an extra web page link here ( https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewMembers.do ) to a web page where all registered people can see them - make a list by assigning the places per significance of contribution, example: 1. badge allocated members 2. number of recruited people 3. date of the recruitment of the last member 4. hour of the recruitment of the last member That way, all people with Gold badges & 12 members recruited will be allocated by date or time of the 12th recruitment. & sooner it's allocated, the higher the list... Otherwise, why do we have those badges? So only I can se mine? :/ |
