confused NVIDIA Shield Android TV where is BOINC?

A few months back I bought an NVIDIA Shield for a spare television. Thought it might be nice to use it for games and BOINC. Unfortunately, I cannot find BOINC in the Google Play Store available through Android TV.

Am I missing something?

BOINC is available in the store on my phone but not when I look for it on the TV.

Re: Android TV where is BOINC?

If it's shown in the store when using the phone, but not on the TV, it means the store has determined the Android OS on there does not have a compatibility tag [I've tried a few times for other apps, but then get 'cannot install, because of...". It's kind of minimum Android 4.1 as a base. "3. Version for ARM processors is available (Minimum requirement is Android version 4.1)"

Thanks. I wonder if there is a way to fix the situation.

Re: Android TV where is BOINC?

Does your device have the option to allow installation of apps from sources other than Google Play Store? Typically found under Settings -> Security

If so, you could try downloading a version from Berkeley directly.

You could also try the NativeBOINC app instead.

upgrade your NVIDIA Shield, here's a link:
https://shield.nvidia.com/support/nvidia-android-tv/release-notes/1

& with that you can get BOINC...if I'm not mistaken, you can get Android 6.0 with v3.0 upgrade on NVIDIA Shield!
even v1.1 upgrade will get you on Andorid 5.1!
wink

EDIT:
it's not recommended to go to Android 6.0, if you wanna use BOINC...as of v7.4.41 they enabled to be compatible with Android 5.0! So Just upgrade "wisely"...
cool

Re: Android TV where is BOINC?

Thanks to all. It looks like Shield needs an OS update, so now I just need to work through it.

Re: Android TV where is BOINC?

Just to be sure, BOINC 7.4.41 is compatible with Android 5 and 6 and onwards.

Re: Android TV where is BOINC?

Well, no joy! I upgraded to 6 but still cannot see BOINC.

Seems like something else to preventing me from seeing BOINC in the Google Store too. Any more ideas?

if you can't see it on a link from here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.berkeley.boinc&hl=en

use this "direct" link:
