What is the best air cooled CPU cooler for running WCG?
----------------------------------------Right now I have the stock intel cooler and it keeps my CPU running at around 70C. I don't know if that is safe for prolonged useage. I would like to get that a bit cooler if possible. ![]() |

It is going to depend on your case size (How large you can go).
----------------------------------------I use Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO's (but mine aren't in a case). Also I'm running 3770's proc. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I have a NZXT Source 220 case. I haven't measured it myself but according to the cases specs I can fit a 160mm cooler in mine.
----------------------------------------PecosRiverM what temps are you getting with the 212? I am also running a 3770. ![]() |

Having an aftermarket cooler can help direct that hot air toward the back (or top) of the case for the case fans to remove it a little easier (just my $.02) ![]() @RJ - I use what I would assume is the little brother of the Hyper 212, the Hyper TX3. Similar to the 212, but with a smaller 92mm fan. Works well for me and very quiet. |

Back in the small form factor P4-Pentium Shuttle days actually constructed a tube to the back wall from the CPU block with a pull fan outside and let the case fan suck the remaining warm air out. Initially noisy, until gluing soundproofing material to the metal case walls. Then placed in a cabinet constructed a separation wall through which the Shuttle snugly fitted, which ensured there was no return flow. Cold [room temp] in at front, warm air out the back. All for a 1 core 1000 points a day 200 Watts/Hr baking 75C.
So much for history. |

If the stock cooler keeps it at 70, that means you'll be good with any heatpipe tower cooler, even the cheapest ones.
----------------------------------------On the other hand, thr hyper 212 evo is the best cooler I've ever had. Completely silent, can handle any cpu unless you OC or have one of those 220w amds :D If you can afford it get the 212! ![]() |

Right now the CPU cooler just blows it towards my motherboard. My rig has two front 120mm in-taking cold air, two top 140mm fans exhausting hot air, and one rear 120mm fan exhausting hot air. I also have room for a side panel and bottom 120mm fan. But I don't need that yet. And fan noise doesn't bug me, just my wife :D ![]() |
